“The last section of the latter part of Zechariah’sprophecy deals with events in the distant future…As aportion of the prophetic Scriptures it is second tonone in importance in this book or any other OldTestament book. It is indispensable to anunderstanding of the events of the last days forIsrael‒the time of the Great Tribulation and theestablishment of God’s kingdom on earth...In thetime of our passage all the nations of earth will bebitten by the virus of anti‐Semitism.”

Perspectives, August 2013, 1, 4‐5.

Some become confused how the rapture can possiblycomfort since they incorrectly associate the "thief in thenight" imagery with the rapture. Since a thief breakinginto one's house in the middle of the night is a harmfuland negative occurrence, people mis‐associate suchnegativity with the rapture. However, the New Testamentnever analogizes the rapture with the coming of a thief. While the New Testament uses "thief" imagery seventimes (Matt. 24:43; Luke 12:39; 1 Thess. 5:2,4; 2 Pet.3:10; Rev. 3:3; 16:15), none of these referencescontextually allude to the rapture.

Job 2:7-8-7 Then Satan went out from the presence of the LORD and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head. 8 And he took a potsherd to scrape himself while he was sitting among the ashes.

Exodus 9:6-So the LORD did this thing on the next day, and all the livestock of Egypt died; but of the livestock of the sons of Israel, not one died.

Rev. 9:4-They were told not to hurt the grass of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree, but only the men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads.

Rev. 16:2-So the first angel went and poured out his bowl on the earth; and it became a loathsome and malignant sore on the people who had the mark of the beast and who worshiped his image.

3

Page 28: Slide 1 - Amazon S3...Slide 1 Dr. Andy Woods Senior Pastor –Sugar Land Bible Church President –Chafer Theological Seminary Slide 2Slide 4 Bowl JudgmentsRevelation 15‒16 I.Bowl

Rev. 8:8-9- 8 The second angel sounded, and something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea; and a third of the sea became blood, 9 and a third of the creatures which were in the sea and had life, died; and a third of the ships were destroyed.

6

Rev. 6:9-11- 9 When the Lamb broke the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God, and because of the testimony which they had maintained; 10 and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, will You refrain from judging and avenging our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” 11 And there was given to each of them a white robe; and they were told that they should rest for a little while longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brethren who were to be killed even as they had been, would be completed also.

1 Kgs. 18:27 (CEV)- At noon, Elijah began making fun of them. “Pray louder!” he said. “Baal must be a god. Maybe he’s day-dreaming or using the toilet or traveling somewhere. Or maybe he’s asleep, and you have to wake him up.”

Matt. 23:24-You blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!

Exod. 1:22- Then Pharaoh commanded all his people, saying, “Every son who is born you are to cast into the Nile, and every daughter you are to keep alive.

Page 29: Slide 1 - Amazon S3...Slide 1 Dr. Andy Woods Senior Pastor –Sugar Land Bible Church President –Chafer Theological Seminary Slide 2Slide 4 Bowl JudgmentsRevelation 15‒16 I.Bowl

Exod. 4:22- Then you shall say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the LORD, “Israel is My son, My firstborn.

Gen. 1:6-7- 6 Then God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” 7 God made the expanse, and separated the waters which were below the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse; and it was so.

Gen. 5:5- So all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years, and he died.

Gen. 5:27- So all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred and sixty-nine years, and he died.

2 Pet. 3:10- But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.

2 Pet. 3:13-But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.

Rev. 8:12- The fourth angel sounded, and a third of the sun and a third of the moon and a third of the stars were struck, so that a third of them would be darkened and the day would not shine for a third of it, and the night in the same way.

Isa. 30:26-The light of the moon will be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun will be seven times brighter, like the light of seven days, on the day the LORD binds up the fracture of His people and heals the bruise He has inflicted.

Page 30: Slide 1 - Amazon S3...Slide 1 Dr. Andy Woods Senior Pastor –Sugar Land Bible Church President –Chafer Theological Seminary Slide 2Slide 4 Bowl JudgmentsRevelation 15‒16 I.Bowl

Gen. 1:3-Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.

Gen. 1:14-19- 14 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years; 15 and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. 16 God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night; He made the stars also. 17 God placed them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18 and to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness; and God saw that it was good. 19 There was evening and there was morning, a fourth day.

Deut. 4:19-And beware not to lift up your eyes to heaven and see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, and be drawn away and worship them and serve them, those which the LORD your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven.

Rev. 21:23-And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb.

Rev. 22:5-And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will reign forever and ever.
