CONCRETE WITH BLENDED CEMENT

• The Technical Meet was inaugurated at the conference hall of Hotel Adarsh, Belgaum, lighting the lamp


• Venue of technical meet at Hubli


• Dr J D Bapat was introduced by Sh K R H Subramaniam, Zonal Manager, North Karnataka


• Participants, about 120, comprised of leading structural engineers, architects, RMC manufacturers and major consumers


• Participants were introduced to mineral admixtures for cement permitted by Indian Standard IS 456: 2000


They were informed how mineral admixtures contribute to the improved properties of fresh concrete, long term strength and durability of concrete


• The presentation also focused on the effectiveness of application of Portland pozzolana cement (PPC) in concrete


• There was enthusiastic participation in the q/a session


• Participants were interested to know how crushed sand can be effectively used in concrete


• They inquired as to whether use of slag sand is permitted as aggregate and what are the limitations


• There were questions on maximum strength achievable in concrete with PPC


• Participants also inquired about the reluctance of the government departments, permitting the use of blended cement in concrete


• The meet ended with the felicitation of Dr J D Bapat, at the hands of the Birla Shakti Cement officials and some senior participants
