The Institute

The Electrical Engineering Department

The Institute of Infrastructure Technology Research and Management (IITRAM), is an autonomous university established by Government of Gujarat in the year 2013 by enacting a state act to provide quality education in the field of Infrastructure Research and its Management. IITRAM provides Engineering Education with specialization in Infrastructure and Management of Infrastructure equipped with centers of excellence to organize advanced studies and to promote research in collaboration with industry leaders. Currently, the Institute is offering Under Graduate, Post Graduate and Ph.D program in Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. The Institute has state-of-the-art laboratories and the infrastructure in all the major areas/specialization of each branch to carry out experiments and research. The Institute has set up Siemens-Center of Excellence and Quanser-Centre of Excellence. The Institute has ambitious plans to expand its academic and research activities in collaboration with Industries.

The Course Content

In recent years, Sliding mode control (SMC) technique has

evolved as one of the most efficient control methods which

reject system uncertainties and disturbances. The main

technical operation of an SMC is to force the system state

trajectories onto some predefined sliding mode surfaces (e.g.,

linear sliding mode surfaces, higher-order sliding mode

surfaces or terminal sliding mode surfaces) by utilizing a

discontinuous control, such that the state trajectory will move

along the sliding mode surfaces and achieve a desired

performance such as stability, tracking ability and disturbance

rejection capability. Due to such nice features, SMC theory

has become a general control design method and SMC

technique has been widely applied in practical systems, such

as electric drives and mechatronic systems, power electronic

systems, manipulators, vehicles, and spacecraft. Moreover,

several combined SMC methods have also been developed,

such as adaptive SMC, backstepping SMC, Networked SMC

and disturbance observer based SMC, for a wide kind of

systems including nonlinear, time-varying, discrete-time,

stochastic, and distributed systems. Thus, it is challenging to

develop novel SMC theories and methods for nonlinear

systems due to its broad application potentials in modern

society. The school will provide platform to young

researchers, faculty, and professionals from the country to

learn the concept of sliding mode control and its applications.

The topics to be covered are:

l SMC theory and methodology

l Higher-order SMC

l Terminal SMC

l Adaptive SMC

l Discrete-time SMC

l Chattering analysis for SMC

l Networked control with SMC

l Sliding mode observers

l Applications of advanced SMC approaches for dynamic

systems.

To fulfil the objective of creating industry ready engineers, the Electrical Engineering Department at IITRAM provides hands-on-practice and research in the state-of-the-art laboratories for Under Graduate, Post Graduate as well research students. The department has established laboratories with modern equipment in almost all major specialisations of Electrical Engineering.

Under Graduate Laboratories:

l Electrical Machines Lab

l Analog System Lab

l Digital Electronics Laboratory

l Power Electronics Lab

l Control System Lab

l Microprocessor and Microcontroller Lab

l Electrical Lab

l Communication Lab

l Power System Lab

l Measurement and Instrumentation Lab

l Electronics Lab

l Renewable Energy Lab

l Simulation & Computation Lab

l e-Yantra Lab

Faculty for the STTP

The faculty from IITRAM and other Institutes like IITs and

NITs will deliver the lectures on the topics.
