Expansion and investment meets with royal approval
Wafer-Cone fl ow meter ready for European PED
In December 1987, Her Royal
Highness, the Princess Royal,
opened SPP’s manufacturing
facility at Coleford, UK. SPP Pumps
is a global pump manufacturer
and pumping solutions provider
and the opening ceremony
marked the completion of a
£4 million investment programme
by SPP in the site.
On 9 November this year, the Prin-
cess Royal returned to mark the
celebration of SPP Pumps' 25 years
at Coleford. During that time, SPP's
total sales have increased from
£15 million to £70 million in 2011,
with an expanding staff topping
170 employees last year.
To support McCrometer’s European
customers, its Wafer-Cone fl ow
meter meets the requirements of
the European Community’s Pres-
sure Equipment Directive (PED)
97/23/EC and is eligible for use
throughout the region.
The PED standard was adopted by
the European Parliament and the
European Council in 1997. It
provides standards for the design,
manufacture, testing and the
uniform assessment of equipment
and assemblies operating in pres-
surized environments across the
European Community.
CE Marking for all service categories
under the Pressure Equipment
directive (PED) 97/23/EC means that
McCrometer’s European customers
have third party assurance that the
Wafer-Cone Flow Meter is safe for
use in the pressurized environments
found in industrial processes and
plants. The Wafer-Cone Flow Meter
meets essential safety require-
ments covering design,
manufacture and testing; satisfi es
appropriate conformity assessment
procedures; and carries the CE
marking and other information.
The meter is aimed at small line
size liquid, gas or steam measure-
ment in oil/gas production, district
energy, food & beverage, metal
and mining, chemical refi ning,
pharmaceuticals, electric power
generation, water treatment.
The interchangeable cone off ers
fl exibility to accommodate
changing fl ow conditions without
recalibration; when fl ow conditions
change over time, the cone can be
removed and replaced with a cone
at a diff erent beta ratio eliminating
the need to buy a new meter.

Over the next fi ve years, SPP is
geared up for an ambitious
£9 million expansion rolling out in
three phases. A £5 million test
centre at 22 m high will be the
tallest building on the industrial
estate and is to house a large
crane to lift huge pumps in and
out of a 15 m deep pit fi lled with
over 1,0000,0000 l of water. The last
phase will see the old offi ces
replaced by a new, modern three-
story building containing confer-
ence and training facilities.
With more than 120 years of
engineering experience in the
fi eld, SPP's service extends over 10
diff erent sectors including oil and
gas, water utilities, fi re protection,
and transformer oil.
From design and manufacture to
testing, parts, after sales service
and on-site energy savings
solutions, SPP Pumps' turnkey
off ering is world class.

IFAT ENTSORGA returns as IFAT after two eventsAfter two events held under the
name of IFAT ENTSORGA,
environmental technology trade fair
reverts to its original name of IFAT
According to Eugen Egetenmeir,
managing director of Messe
München GmbH: "The name
ENTSORGA was included in the
show’s title in 2010, to communi-
cate to the sector the fact that
this event was moving from
Cologne to Munich. That message
has now been understood, and so
we are going back to our original,
succinct name of IFAT."
As well as the name change, IFAT is
also adopting a new claim –
‘resources. innovations. Solutions’ –
to sum up the spectrum covered
by the fair and its orientation. The
areas of water/waste water and
waste/secondary raw materials now
come under the overarching term
of ‘resources’.

Slimline propeller line reduces energy costsA new Flygt propeller pump line
has been unveiled by Xylem Inc,
which reduces investment and
maintenance costs while maxim-
ising a pump station’s perform-
ance and effi ciency.
The new range of Flygt Slimline
propeller pumps uses smaller
discharge column sizes resulting
in a more compact pump station
footprint which in turn minimises
civil construction costs. Flygt
N-technology provides increased
clog resistance, and the self-
cleaning propeller minimises
operational disturbances while
delivering high effi ciency and
reduced energy costs.
“The modern design of the new
Flygt Slimline propeller pumps
ensures that they are easy to
install, as well as cost and energy
effi cient, without compromising
on performance. The smaller
discharge column size of the
Flygt Slimline propeller pump
means that a more compact
pump station footprint is needed,
which therefore minimises civil
construction costs – a key
concern for customers today,” said
Bob Domkowski, business devel-
opment manager at Xylem.
