These brave Slivkans battle against the rival CCI 'ers in an epic WaterBalloon War. Sadly, CCI never stood a chance as we crushed them ina pathetic victory.

We learned together at firesides, played together in intramural sports, ate together inSargent, and worked late into the night together in Slivka's lounges. We social ized at BBQs,group bondings, and formals, and repeatedly told CCI who is boss on north campus. Slivkashowed time and time again why we are the best Residential College at NU, coming togetherto form a one of a kind l iving and learning community. We forged strong friendships throughour common experiences in science and engineering, and broadened our horizons by sharing
our many differences as well .-- Ryan Brock, President of Slivka 09-11

September brought new and old Wildcats back through the arch. For Slivka, October began with the first formal event of the school year. The formal was held aboard a Mystic Blue yacht at Chicago's Navy Pier on Lake Michigan. Slivkans, dressed up in their best, lit up the night in purple (and yellow, blue, red...) Unlike the previous year, the 2010 formal was accompanied by mild fall weather that made for a pleasant evening. Slivkans enjoyed a night of good food and music that ended with a fireworks show over the lake.

CCI and Slivka hosted a joint party this year. Attendees enjoyed a pumpkin carving contest and costume contest, plenty of candy and treats, caramel apples, and a showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Additionally, Slivkans helped bring Halloween to the Evanston area through Project Pumpkin, a Northwestern event that features safe and fun Halloween games and treats to area children.

Slivkans spent hours working on the homecoming banner the night before the parade.
The theme for this year was "Where the Wildcats Are," which was centered around children's books.
Every year the residential colleges compete for recognition in the Homecoming Parade. This year, Slivka took first in the banner competition.

Competitive SeasonSlivka wins RCB championship in co-rec dodgeball
The Slivka IM sports teams had
an extremely successful season, with al l
six teams making it to the playoffs and
most advancing several games. Slivka
was the co-rec dodgeball RCB
champion, winning the final game
against rival CCI . The overal l co-rec
record was 5-1 , and white dodgeball
record was 1 -4. In football , Sl ivka's co-
rec team made it to the championship
game, but it could not be played due to a
scheduling error. The final co-rec
football record was 6-0, and 2-6 for white
league. Slivka's volleyball teams worked
hard during the quarter, going 2-2 for co-
rec and 1 -5 for white league. In final
team standings, Sl ivka took fifth place,
but was the highest ranked of the
residential col leges.

Exciting GameIn the last few seconds of the co-rec football
game against Phi Psi/Gamma Phi, Sl ivka was
down 1 4-1 2. We went for a two point
conversion, but the ball was batted down by
the defense. David Kim miraculously saved the
ball and threw the winning touchdown pass to

Each winter, Slivka puts on a bachelor auction to raise money to support its Dance Marathon teams. This year's Dance Marathon benefited the Children's Heart Foundation. Slivkans demonstrated their many talents and auctioned off services to the audience. Services included cooking breakfast or steak dinners, cheauffeur service, dance lessons, and many others. Some Slivkans auctioned such feats of daring as running around campus in Speedos and jumping into the lake...

What was the mostmemorable momentof Dance Marathon
'1 1 ?I remember when they showedus the final amount, and theyheld up two cards (a 1 0,instead of a 9), showing usthat we reached the 1 mil l ionmark. I t was like electricity hadgone through the room, andeveryone was immediatelyrecharged. Right then, throughthe sweat and the tears(because I remember beingoverwhelmed with happinessand crying) I decided that Iwas going to do DM for therest of my undergraduatecareer.
- Anthony Guerrero
The most memorablemoment was when theyreleased the finalfundraising amount. I tsounds total ly cl iché, butseeing them fl ip$1 ,000,000 up on theboard made the wholenight worth it. The dancingand bonding was amazingthroughout the whole 30hours, but that moment, and seeing the looks on allof the CHF people mademy day, and was reallyemotional for everybody.

Many memories wil l foreverl inger in my head from thisyear's Dance Marathon:dancing on stage like a sleep-deprived but energy-ravagedmaniac, swaying in a circle ofSlivkans to songs beingplayed, and eating far lessthan a snack-sized portion ofpasta for dinner are allincluded. However, the mostmemorable moment of DanceMarathon '1 1 for me is alsol ikely the popular choice -when it was final ly announcedthat over $1 ,000,000 wasraised via our efforts. Joyfulchaos erupted when theyposted the final total, and Ihave never felt more in unisonwith an enormous group ofpeople, the overwhelmingmajority of whom I have nevermet. And then we dancedsome more.
- Holden Faber
Dance Marathon is the culmination of a year of fundraising, volunteering andeducating by more than 1 ,000 students, faculty, staff, and administrators in a thirtyhour dance-a-thon. This year, the Children’s Heart Foundation was the primarybeneficiary and, for the fourteenth consecutive year, the Evanston CommunityFoundation was the secondary beneficiary. The Children’s Heart Foundation(CHF) is the only organization focused on bringing health, hope and happiness tochildren and famil ies affected by congenital heart defects, the most common birthdefect in the world and the leading cause of birth defect-related deaths. To
The most memorablemoment of DM 2011 was (ofcourse) when the last twonumbers were put up on thetotal board and it was clearthat we had raised over $1mil l ion. My heart has neverbeat so fast as when thatone and zero were turnedover and my sleep-deprivedbrain final ly realized whatthat meant. The rush andcelebration that immediatelyensued were absolutelyunforgettable.

I think the most unique and defining aspect of Slivka is our upperclassmen....We all get the privilege of living with people of different ages and experiences, and this “multi-generational” community is what makes Slivka such a great, collaborative environment.
