“Academic entrepreneurship can be defined as the leadership process of creating value through acts of organizational creation, renewal or innovation that occurs within or outside the university that results in research and technology commercialization. It occurs at the level of individuals or groups of individuals acting independently or as part of faculty or university systems, who create new organizations, or instigate renewal or innovation within or outside the university.” (Yusof et all., 2004)

• engaging in large scale science (externally funded),

• earning supplemental income, • gaining industry support for

university research, • obtaining patents or

generating trade secrets, and • commercialization –forming or

holding equity in private companies based on a faculty member’s own research.
