Outside of the Department of Community and Economic Development, there are numerous places a small business owner could inquire on potential funding availability and technical assistance. Federal and state appropriations are distributed in a variety of ways. In many instances, funding goes directly to regional and local entities. > The Keystone Innovation Zone (KIZ) offers financialand technical assistance to companies in operation forless than eight years, located within the boundaries ofa geographically designated KIZ, and operating in atargeted industry sector such as life sciences, hightechnology, advanced manufacturing and materials,and business services. KIZs provide access to acontinuum of technology-based economic developmentpartners such as PennTAP, ebizITPA and TheTechnology Collaborative as well as access to 91 ofPennsylvania’s institutions of higher education who arecurrently participating in the program.
