Tutorial - How to make moss ( easy )

    1

    2

    3

o create an easy moss eect on your bases you need:- Blister oam or some kind o ne sponge/oam- Superglue

Paint your base like you would normally do.Ten add some superglue to the spots where youwant the moss to be in the end. Now press thesponge onto the superglue. Watch or your n-gers as the superglue can get pressed through thesponge.

Now repeat this step or all spots where you wantthe moss to grow in the end.

You can also use a tool to press down the oam ontothe superglue.

When the superglue has dried (better wait a little

longer!) just rip o the oam pieces with your n-gers.

A little rest o the oam will stay stuck to the basewhere the superglue has dried.

Use a pair o tweezers to remove smaller parts othe oam. Like this you will get small spots o theoam.

Te size o the nal moss patches will be deter-mined by the amount o superglue you used.

Afer youre done with the application o the mossyou can use thinned paint to give them some color.

Use dark greens or the start.Tin the paint with 70% water.Apply this wash to the oam.

I its not covering the oam, repeat.

When this wash dried, you can startdrybrushing it gently with somebrighter green.

o nish the moss do a last sof drybrush with the

    brightest green.

o do a nice drybrush, try to not use the colorstraight rom the bottle but thin it down to 2 partscolor, 1 part water.

Ten get some color on your brush, remove somecolor on a paper towel and gently brush over the

    surace o the moss.

    Voil, your moss is nished!

Now we add some support or the clay we have toadd.

o do this I cut some Styroorm to arches and gluedthem to place with Uhu glue. Dont use superglueas it will eat through the oam!

All solvent ree glues will be ne.

I mixed some ast more ast curing putty andpressed it onto the support oam to create thebridge arch.

Tis will dry ast to a very stable support or thenext steps and the whole base.

I started to apply some Milliput onto the wall.

When the wall piece was covered with Milliput Istarted to rough out the stones. I used a knie-liketool to cut out the orm and the deepen the cracksbetween the stones.

I used a rough sponge to gently tap the surace othe stones to create a more realistic and interestingsurace.

When the wall was dry, I used a hobby knie to putsome cracks and slashes into the stones.

I added some bits to the water section. Addingthose parts like this will have them stick out o thewater later.

Teyll also reach the ground o the water. Tis willmake the water appear much deeper and more 3dimensional.

I wanted to add a beam to the top o the bridge. But rst I had to add some structure to build theside o the bridge.

I used 2mm plasticard or this task. Te rst step isto rough out the shape o the side.

Again I used some ast curing putty to create the

    understructure or the side.

When this was dry I applied some Milliput to thetop and the underside o the bridge.

Te boulders were made the same way as on therest o the wall.

Aer the last part completely dried I added the sideo the bridge using Milliput.

Some more details have been added to the upsideo the bridge. I also added the broken chain thatonce was used to keep the troll under control...

Now the time came to test t the troll. As it seemsI underestimated the size o the massive troll and

his angle was not the one I imagined, he has to acemore to the upper side.

o change the trolls charging direction. I added

some kind o platorm or his oot.Te underside is supported by some plasticard andthe upside is sculpted with Magic Sculp.Later this piece will be additionally supported bythe resin water.

Because o rustration and composition changes I

broke of the gate support beam.

Work in Progress: Pripjat by Rafaele Picca

I wanted to catch the mood o pripjat in this piece. Pripjat is a city near Chernobyl wherethe nuclear reactor disaster happened in 1986. Te residents were ordered to evacuate - andmost never came back.Tis city le by men is a good source o inspiration i you want to create a creepy and postapocalyptic atmosphere.

o make the base I used a plastic wall piece that you can buy at a architecture store or at arailway modeling store.

I added a ence that I also got rom the railway modeling store. Its made by Busch andcalled Schmiedeeiserner Zaun (6016) i you want to nd it.Te brick pillar is rom the same set.

Te white parts are plaster o paris that I poured on a at surace to get a at piece. All wooden parts are balsa wood, this is very easy to break and modiy.

Te broken girder in the back I got rom an architecture store.

o make the plaster on the wall I used some Milliput that I applied in a random manner. When it is almost dry use a clayshaper to rub over it. Youll get a nice plaster structure.

Work in Progress: Inection by Rafaele Picca

Tis is a small but efective conversion o a Forgeworld Nurgle Marine kit.

o add the small blisters I used the content o a waterlter rell capsule. You can use mostbrands that are like the Brita style waterlters. Inside those waterlter capsules you willnd a lot o small balls and mixed with some coal pieces.

o seperate the coal rom the balls just take a sheet o paper, old it in the middle so youhave a gap. Now put some o the waterlters content on the paper. Get some kind o con-

tainer and hold the paper over the container and let the balls roll into the container by gen-tly tilting the sheet o paper. Te balls will roll and the coal parts will stay in place becauseo the orm.

I used superglue to apply spots o blisters at some spots o the gure.Te spike on the shoulderpad is some crab part I ound on the beach. Be sure to put allorganic parts into boiling water beore using them or they can start to smell bad (maybenot so bad or a Nurgle Marine...)I sculpted the busted parts o armor using Magic Sculp. With the balls attached rst its easyto nd the right spots or this efect.
