Many customers are struggling with key cloud questions
Could we utilize cloud services?
How would cloud support our organization’s objectives?
What would be the benefits?
Would our current IT infrastructure support cloud delivery?
How can we develop a road map to achieve our cloud objectives?
How do we plan for and get started with Cloud?

Why is cloud computing important for Development and Test and production workloads?
TraditionalTraditional
High deployment costs to deliver software
Control and governance chaos in software processes
Onramp and on-boarding of teams reduces time to software delivery
•Reduced installation and administration costs
•Lower TCO by improved utilization of software assets
•Better governance through standardized delivery of services
•Preconfigured software embodying best practices
•Tools can be provisioned in minutes. No download, installation or setup.
•Self-administered portal to access to software resources for a globally distributed team

The IBM Smart Business Development and Test on the IBM Cloud supports a broad array of workloads.
Application development
New projects or quick deployments
Transient applications– Demo– Training– Proof of Concept– Migration of technology
Multi-site, outsourced development and test– Access from multi-sites, remote locations, etc.– Walled off external and contractor resources
Cloud deployment of Rational Team ConcertTM
– Collaborative development– Process facilitation– Source control– Defect management
Cross organization
Access tools and software images from IBM and IBM Business Partners
A site for collaboration with partners and vendors, outside everyone’s firewall
Testing and quality assurance
Different testing scenarios– Regression– Build and verification– Endurance
Cloud deployment of IBM Rational quality manager
– Test management– Test cases– Test execution and results
Operations and infrastructure
Spillover or burst infrastructure
What if … swapping out components…
Move development and test environments out of data center to free up resources for production use
Cloud accelerates business value across a wide variety of domains.

Characteristics of the IBM Smart Business Cloud
Standardized– Hardware: Processor, Memory and Storage Options– Operating Systems: Red Hat Enterprise Linux & SuSe Linux Enterprise Server
Multi Tenant– All aspects of the physical hardware are shared– Virtual isolation of instances
Non-traditional non functional requirements– 99.5% SLA for VM Accessibility (NOT availability)– Performance of a virtual machine is variable – The Cloud does not explicitly support any regulatory standards or audit
Self Service– IBM does not manage the OS and above (additional/optional services available)– Customer has full access to control their virtual environments
Financial– Zero up front commit– Pay as you go pricing

Business Considerations
Due to the multiple deployment models, the IBM Public Cloud is not the only offering available. Should it not be a fit for a customer situation, consider:
– Application on Demand– EBHS– Strategic Outsourcing (SO) Options– Private Cloud deployments
The IBM Cloud is not a managed services offering, rather a self service model The SLA for the IBM Cloud is for VM accessibility, not availability or performance. This
is different than the SLAs for most other IBM hosting offerings The functional characteristics and standardization of the IBM Cloud allow for an
attractive, zero commitment contract with pay as you go pricing– Many customers may choose to redesign their applications to take advantage– Certain workloads lend themselves better to this kind of environment than others
Rapid provisioning– Cloud allows for rapid provisioning and deprovisioning of instances– Speed to market may be more valuable than architectural considerations

Technical Considerations
Can my customer work with the OS images and modify to meet their needs?– RHEL 5.4 and SUSE 11– Windows 2003 and 2008– Customer can configure and completely modify the OS – IBM Cloud is limited to these Operating Systems
Is the workload able to be virtualized? The workload also must be abstracted to the OS level
– IBM provides OS images and not hypervisor access– The IBM Cloud is not a bare metal solution
Will the storage configuration of the IBM Cloud suit the workload?– Ephemeral: Fast and inexpensive local disk up to 2TB– Persistent: Network attached with additional cost up to 2TB capacity
Can the application work without a guarantee of bandwidth or response time?– Multi tenant without a guarantee of bandwidth or response time– Shared 1Gb Ethernet– Single point-to-point VPN provides connectivity between enterprise network and
virtual LAN (VLAN) in the cloud (optional and additional charges apply)
