Converting Your Desires Into Smart Goal Setting

The first step is to begin breaking down the desire into steps that will take you towards achieving your desire. Maybe you have desires that are so profound that it just might take you a couple of years to achieve it. For example 5 years. To make it more tangible it's a good idea to break them down into 1 year goals. 6 months, 3 months and 1 month goals.

Smart Goal Setting - Mapping Out Your Goals

Begin with the 1 year goal. Write down a couple of steps that needs to be in place within the next 1 to 3 years. If it will take you about 3 years to achieve this bigger step then break that step into 3 steps so it become on of your 1 year goals. Maybe the first year can be preparing and building the foundation for that goal. Second is adding more and third is finishing it up. In that way you have three 1 year goals.

Smart Goal Setting Monthly

When the first year goal is in place you'd want to break it down even further to make it even more clear. Just as with the year goal, break it down in 2 pieces and you will have two 6 month goal. Same thing with 3 month goals and 1 month goal.

I bet you've heard about 90-day plans. Well they have a purpose.Sometimes it takes a while before you see some profound results. About 90 days, go figure. When you break down goals this way it becomes clearer what you need to do each month and that is smart goal setting.

When you come down to the monthly goal you will have a pretty clear picture on what to do in the coming month. Your 1 month and 3 month goals should be a little bit more detailed than the 6 month and year goals. Since this is your map to what action needs to be taken you'd want it more detailed.

What is SMART Goal Setting?

I bet you have heard about SMART goal setting, where SMART is an acronym for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time limited. I have noticed that it just doesn't matter if you write them down with that acronym in mind.

If you've taken all the other steps you will already have Specified it. You broken it down into monthly goals and therefore it is measurable. Since it is a desire it is both Attainable and absolutely Relevant to you. And having it in monthly it is pretty much time limited too. Don't you think?

The Next Step in Smart Goal Setting

The next thing to do in smart goal setting is to break it down into weekly and daily action steps so that you will have mapped out every single day and you'll know exactly what to do. And that way
