SM provides more information and transparency but added values depends on
politics and regulation to use it for differentiated pricing and as a tool to

Smart Metering_ added value for customers?
• Extension of the “Broadband power line“ – testing relibility / availability / data transfer
• Project “Narrow band power line” – Meters using Meter&More protocol.
PLC GPRS• Technologically insufficient• Interoperability (the importance of IT)• Very high costs CAPEX, OPEX
• First Pilot Project → To test usable functionalities from the perspective of distributor
I. Phase – Display consumption data and price→ short term added value!
II. Phase – „Virtual super cheap fare, super expensive ”→ Low motivating customers to move their consumption even at a high price difference!
• Pilot project focused on the end user Smart meters gives them added value?
→ use PLC technology for low and medium voltage.
→ to test the possibility to change the currently used ripple control HDO
→ communication module implantable in any meter (interoperability)

With PLC technology the common power conductors is able to carry
simultaneously:

How it
works?
Operates by adding a modulated carrier signal to the wiring system. For this
reason utility companies uses special coupling devices to connect radio
transmitters to the power lines.

E.ON continue testing the new technologies also in the following areas…:
GRID MANAGEMENT
SMART METERING
eMOBILITY
DEMAND SIDE MANAGEMENT
DECENTRALIZED GENERATION
…in pilot projects in order to identify the best technical-economic solution of the energy trilemma and fulfill E.ON strategy !
