A smart phone is a mobile phone that offers more advanced computing ability and connectivity than a contemporary feature phone.

Addictive. Reduced productivity. Endangering the eye - staring at small text on the mobile

screen can cause headaches, blurred vision, and dry eye. Disrupt sleep – the sound they make when you receive a

message or an e-mail.

Cellular phones were an early problem when students were distracted by phone calls and texts messaging, but now smart phones can do just about anything your computer or laptop can, but in an easily concealable handheld device.

Smart phones with computer-like capabilities are quickly becoming popular among college-aged cell phone users and are changing the way that students find, access and use information.

Since smart phones pretty much allow you to do anything you want these days, having them in the classroom might be distracting students more than ever.

The use of the BlackBerry has a negative impact in the workplace, such as not meeting deadlines due to the concentration of which is divided between work and the smart phone.

All those applications, the endless e-mail checking and texting can keep you from real work, therefore reducing productivity.

The presence of smart phones such as BlackBerry, iPhone or the Nokia Communicator is quite phenomenal because it offers many advantages in communication.

Because greater functionality is built-in, smartphones can do things much more quickly than their standard mobile phone and PDA precursors.

Frequent checking of email and internet applications takes time and attention away from interpersonal relationships.

they are quick to communicate with and they make it very easy to stay in touch.

they are quick because you can communicate in seconds with everybody, and also you can send important information and documents in seconds in any place.

They make it very easy to stay in touch because you can write to friends easily and start a communication with them at any moment.

Most people use their smart phones for social networking.

According to research conducted by Research In Motion, BlackBerry devices and other smart phones may have had a huge impact on executive and employee productivity, but they also have a negative impact on work-life balance.

The USA Today article reporting the research highlights how these devices increase efficiency, reduce stress, and “swing the work-life balance to the company side of the scales”.

Some research suggests mobile phone radiation could trigger brain tumors and insomnia. Too often staring at the phone can also cause nausea and headaches.

•This graph shows that the number of smart phones sold has increased rapidly over the years.
