PhotoelectricRegistration Sensor

The SMARTEYE® X-MARKTM is thefastest, most accurate registration mark sensoravailable on the market. The X-MARKTM wasdesigned to target the printing, packaging, andconverting markets. By creating a specificsensor to exceed the current capability of themarket leaders, and at a price that removes allbarriers to change, the X-MARKTM is sure toattract the attention of engineers andpurchasing agents alike.

The SMARTEYE® X-MARKTM uses a 2.2mmlight spot that can detect a mark, edge, orproduct as it approaches the sensor in anydirection. Some competitive models use a lineto give the impression of accuracy, but throughspecific testing, we've discovered that thesevery expensive sensors are not as accurate asthey appear. The X-MARKTM sensors’ 5µsrepeatability provides reassurance of accuracyat the highest speeds in any direction. The onlyquestion is... "How fast can the machine run?"

The sensor was designed as a drop-inreplacement to the existing market leaders. Thebracket system provides the customer with ahole-for-hole configuration that aligns the focalpoint in the exact position of similar sensorscurrently on the market. Having this uniqueability to be a drop-in replacement ensures thecustomer's requirements are met and exceededwithout additional mechanical, electrical, orperformance considerations.

Using the X-MARKTM, High Speed PhotoelectricRegistration Sensor from Tri-Tronics® removesperformance limitations and allows for fullthroughput capacity at the highest speeds inany direction.

FeaturesAGS™ AUTOMATIC GAIN SELECTThis unique feature provides automaticdigital selection of amplifier gain basedupon your sensing requirements.

AUTOSET ADJUSTMENTThe AUTOSET adjustment routine onlyrequires the push of one button, onetime! There are four AUTOSET Modes tochoose from: Light State, Dark State,Two-Point, and Dynamic. Light StateAUTOSET is used when there is a lightbackground with a dark mark; Dark StateAUTOSET is used when there is a darkbackground with a light mark; Two-PointAUTOSET is used when the backgroundand mark are very similar in color orcontrast; Dynamic AUTOSET is usedwhen there is a requirement to jog themark past the sensor on-the-fly, or whenthere isn't an opportunity to stop thesystem for setup.

REMOTE AUTOSETRemotely AUTOSET the sensor byapplying a contact closure from the

Remote AUTOSET input wire to negative(0VDC) or positive (10-30VDC),depending on model, as shown in thewiring diagram. The Remote AUTOSETcommand will duplicate the last manualAUTOSET performed.

EDR® (Patent No. 5,621,205)Another unique feature is the digitallycontrolled EDR (Enhanced DynamicRange) circuit. It prevents Dark Statesaturation and expands the operatingrange without reducing amplifier gain.

CONTRAST INDICATOR™Provides “at-a-glance” performance data.

TIMERWhen the “OFF” delay pulse stretcher isenabled, the output duration is extendedby 10 milliseconds. Enabling the Timerallows ample time for the controller torespond. The time durations of the gapbetween marks must be longer than theselected delay.

HIGH SPEED10µs response time when respondingto Light or Dark State. 5µs repeatability.

CONNECTIONSBuilt-in 5-pin M12 connector, or 6' Cable.

MOUNTING OPTIONSThrough-hole or Bracket Mount.

REMOTE PROGRAMMING (XM/XMC-1Models Only)Remotely program the sensor's fourAUTOSET Modes, Change the Timer,Invert the output, make minoradjustments, and repeat the lastAUTOSET performed by applying acontact closure to negative (0VDC) in asimple sequence of pulses. This can beaccomplished using a PLC pulse train,an HMI, or a momentary pushbuttonswitch.

Special Features

Detailed FeaturesREGISTRATION SENSOR

REMOTE PROGRAMMING (XM/XMC-1 Models Only)The Remote Programming feature of the SMARTEYE® X-MARKTM allows thecustomer to configure, AUTOSET, and tweak the sensor using a PLC pulse-train,HMI, NPN transistor output, or momentary pushbutton switch to 0VDC/ground. Thisprovides the customer with control over every aspect of the sensor configurationwithout having to physically touch the sensor. If you have several sensors on yourmachine; have sensors buried deep within the mechanical structure of the machine;or have your sensors in safe areas behind interlocks… you can easily access thesesensors remotely to perform a "digital changeover" due to this unique, specialfeature.

HMI - Human Machine Interface

Each pulse (L) is low for 40ms to 400ms. The idle time (H) betweenpulses is 40ms to 400ms. The delay (D) between sets of pulses is .75seconds to 5 seconds.

Example: Invert Mode - Normal

(Mark Samples)

INITIATE AUTOSET: After selecting therequired AUTOSET MODE…

A. LIGHT STATE AUTOSET MODE - Placethe light background in view, press andrelease the AUTOSET button.

B. DARK STATE AUTOSET MODE - Placethe dark background in view, press andrelease the AUTOSET.

C. TWO-POINT (Span Adjustment) - Placethe background in view, press and releasethe AUTOSET button. Then place the markin view, press and release the AUTOSETbutton.

D. DYNAMIC - With the background in view, press and hold the AUTOSET button move the mark in view, or past the sensor, then release the AUTOSET button.

INVERT: To invert the output, press and hold the INVERT button for 2 seconds.TIMER: To select the 10ms pulse stretcher, press and hold both buttons.REMOTE AUTOSET:1. When using the Remote AUTOSET line, the AUTOSET mode must first be selected manually via the pushbuttons, see SelectAUTOSET Mode.2. To initiate a Remote AUTOSET, pulse the AUTOSET line using the same sequence as specified in the pushbutton instructionsfor that AUTOSET mode. The pulse must have a minimum duration of .75 seconds and is active low for XM/XMC-1 and -2models and active high for XM/XMC-3 models. See Connections and Dimensions.NOTE: AUTOSET automatically selects Output “ON” for mark. LT/DK line on XM/XMC-2 and -3 models will override automaticoutput selection.

AUTOSET ProcedureSELECT AUTOSET MODE:While holding down the AUTOSET button, tap the "SELECT" button to advance through thefour modes. The direction of the LED's indicates the current AUTOSET mode illustratedbelow. When desired AUTOSET mode is selected, release the AUTOSET button. (See belowINITIATE AUTOSET for details)
