Demands from EU Policy and EC Regulations

Key demands –Territorial dimension due to Territorial Cohesion in Treaty–Place-based and Integrated approach–Evidence informed policy and programming –Concentration on priority themes for investment (CSF)–Concrete results (important for recovery)–EU policy affects regions differently–Exploring diversity through tailor made policy mixes with integrated solutions

Including a European perspective

Using ESPON in analyses for integrated regional strategies:

– Openness for adding a European perspective– Benchmarking/learning the strategy area within numerous

themes related to smart, sustainable and inclusive growth– Look for swot’s of (1) the entire area, (2) for particular regions

and cities, (3) across borders and (4) in the wider context (neighbours and networks)

– Inform the policy makers on the specific diversity of potentials and challenges

– Be precise on where within the strategy area what smart specialisation could be implemented most efficient as actions

– Propose a “balanced” strategy with mix of actions in different places that can support the policy momentum necessary
