• Objective: To transform the way customers buy and use public transport tickets by developing an ITSO smart ticketing infrastructure across the North East of England
What is NESTI?
• Collaboration between the 12 Local Authorities in the North East and Tyne & Wear Integrated Transport Authority
• Delivered by TW ITA and Nexusworking with localtransport operators

• £10 million from NESTI Local Authorities
• £2.2 million DfT Smart & Integrated Ticketing Grant
• £15 million Metro Ticketing & Gating Major Scheme plus local contribution and Metro Rail Grant
• Bus operator investment in ticketing equipment and systems

• Smart back office (HOPS) installed and available for use across NESTI
• Enables Concessionary Travel Journeys to be recorded and analysed

• Vehicle for other integrated smart products

• Continuation of the trend for greater online information provision
• More opportunities to link between online information sources
• Call centres likely to be customer contact points for info and ticketing
• Apps developers likely to make further functionality linkages
• Single source of cross-operator fare data remains more elusive
