„Smashed‟ is a theatre-dance-juggling piece for nine European performers, selected for their mature approach to juggling and performing skills. Combining precise juggling with theatri-cality, they create a filmic series of scenes inspired by the late seminal choreographer Pina Bausch. Through „Smashed‟, the two artistic directors Kati Ylä-Hokkala and Sean Gandini present the world under an utterly subjective perspective, violently distorting reality to obtain an emo-tional effect and vividly transmitting their personal moods and ideas. Composed of tableaux vivants that give a sense of old photographs; echoing world wars, tense relationships, lost love and innocence, nostalgia and the quaintness of afternoon tea, this Bauschian Tanzjonglage performance culminates with a cathartic smashing of apples and breaking of crockery. Minimum stage size: Width: 10m — Depth: 8m — Height clearance: 4m. We can adapt to smaller spaces if given no-tice in advance. If the stage is small, please en-sure the public is at least a meter away from the stage. For outdoor shows, ideally, we would pre-fer a built stage but a town square or a lawn is suitable.

Lighting:

Smashed can be performed in daylight or in the evening as well as in theatres. For evening and indoor shows, we need a general lighting cover of the whole stage. Ideally from sides and cor-ners, with minimal light from the front, a white wash with no strobing or flashing lights.

Other requirements:

We require 9 chairs with backs, ideally not too modern, the older the better. If you use a back-drop, the darker the better, ideally black.

Sound / PA system: System should be supplied with a professional standard CD player and an operator. Music must be played from the beginning with no fad-ing in or pitch shifting.

Access: Company needs 50 minutes on stage with lights and sound operator.

Backstage: A secure dressing room is required with access to power and drinking water.

Additional Information: For outdoors shows, stage, sound and dressing room requirements remain the same, although the show can be performed on the ground. Bookers should also be aware that “Smashed” could be performed in a drizzle but not in heavy rain. Windy conditions, however, are not a prob-lem.

The show is about juggling apples and crockery and in the end, they are broken on the floor. So the floor needs to be cleared and ideally washed after the show. We are very happy to help if you have enough cleaning equipment.

Running time: 27 minutes or 50 minutes
