    Kitchen/Dining

    The most prominent part

    of the program hugs the

    street corner and creates a

    barrier of privacy for those

    outside the complex and

    others who are utilizing the

    soup kitchens resources.

The L-shaped plan createsa linked space where food

    preparation and distribution

    are conveniently located

    adjacent to the dining room.

    Bathing Pavilion

    Shower areas were incor-

    porated into the program

for those in need of general

hospitality. A total of 10 indi-

vidual stalls are put in place

    featuring shampoo and

    soap dispensers as well as

sinks. In addition, a sky-light built into the hip roof

    provides plenty of natural

    light and operable privacy

    windows give way to proper

    ventilation.

    Counseling/Admin

    Ofcial staff of the soup

    kitchen have ofces located

in the rear of the site facing

    all the other programmatic

    elements. It is important

    that these spaces are kept

    open and free of obstruc-

tion in order to support theadministrations open door

    policy. A variety of meeting

    rooms and individual ofces

    compose the administrative

    area and complete the qual-

    ity of this valuable neighbor-

    hood resource.

    THE SOLUTION

a SUSTAINABLE design including kitchen and dining facilities, bathing area,

    and administrative ofces

    incorporated into the overall design.

    of comprehensive thought put into

the completion of the new facade.
