OUR PRINCIPLES
‘It’s a thing that keeps us sane’
It is called design. Realize it or not, design is a part of our everyday life. Our clothes, houses, cars and even road signs are all the result of design processes.
Smithies is born from that principle.
Furthermore, it is born from the
designers who get crafty.

THE PEOPLE BEHIND SMITHIES
Ailice, Stephanie and Steffiane
are three graphic designers who
met in college and have the same
enthusiasm for putting all things in
design perspective.
Together, they founded Smithies as
a stage to expose their love for
arts, crafts and design.
Meet Ai—or Ailice, whose name is
repeatedly misspelled. Channeling
her passion for culinary world,
she designs restaurant menus and
their collaterals with her brilliant
photography and design sensibilities.
Not just that, she also loves to eat
and will give a review on whatever she
swallows! Brace yourself for hours of
foodilicious conversation if you ever
bring up food topics. But one thing, do
not ask her to cook.
Ever since Stephanie can spell the
word “craft,” she has been addicted
to DIY. Take a peek into her whatnots
and you’ll find a bevy of her self-
made stuffs: passport holders,
wrappings, scrapbooks, et al. She is,
too, an avid hunter and collector
of interestingness around the
world. Keeping her hands—literally
and figuratively—busy today is
her business in making wedding
accouterments, such as boutonniere,
ring pillow and hand bouquet. That
said, threads, buttons and scissors are
her lucky charms, while combining
craft with graphic design is her
signature.
As for Steffiane, curiosity is a big
chunk of her life. Almost everything
can instantly spark her curious mind.
Be it the latest news of technology, a
cooking recipe or everyday thing that
she encounters. Such behavior makes
her journals fully loaded, and as a
result, she always has something fresh
to apply in her design. She also does
not hesitate to take a journey into the
unknown and probing new territory.
OUR MANIFESTO
The Smithiesare natural crafters,
the believers of everything design.
We are the STUDENTS who create our own gift wrap for birthday presents, the ACCOUNTANTS who fix our own loose buttons.
We are the HOUSEWIVES who prepare bento for our husband everyday,
the 9-TO-5 WORKERS who create our own party decorations.
We are thePROFESSIONALS who still deliver handwritten notes,
the AMATEURS who have deft hands with ribbons.
To us, there is no harm in trying.
And there is certainly no harm in the second try.
But we believe in perfecting our practice.
Design is a huge slice of our lives. And crafting is a sense of
Zen.
But we will not keep those two just for ourselves.
Together we’ll bring mutual inspiration, learning unique
experience.
