What is Mums2Be Smokefree?

• A smoking in pregnancy voucher incentive scheme

• 5 smoking in pregnancy practitioners, 105 hours per week

• All Midwives are trained in BI annually

• Health Visitors and Children’s Centre staff BI trained

• 2 specialist Midwives

• Part of the MSLC

Referrals mainly from midwives

Our aim is to contact

referrals within 24 hours

Appointment made at a venue

that suits both client and

practitioner

First meeting is usually for 60

minutes

Follow up appointments are generally 30 minutes

Clients have weekly contact with two weekly appts & online support

group

Love2Shop vouchers for a successful quit

attempt

Intensive referral contacts

Follow ups for UTCs, DNAs and decline

service

The Online Support Group

An online survey was carried out 11 months after the initial group was set up.

The group at the time had 73 client members. There was a 31.5% response rate

• 95.85% strongly agreed or agreed that participation in the group provided support and

encouragement

• 100% strongly agreed or agreed that participation in the group helped them to realise that any

problems they encountered were not unique

• 87.5% strongly agreed or agreed that participation in the group enabled them to confront difficult

problems

• 96% strongly agreed or agreed that participation in the group supported them to quit

• 75% strongly agreed or agreed that participation within the group helped to avoid relapse

• 96% would recommend the group to friends

• 96% felt safe within the group

Love2Shop

• Love2Shop vouchers will be issued as

an incentive to those women who

successfully quit smoking whilst

pregnant.

• These women will prove their eligibility

using a CO monitor, their reading must

be 4ppm or below.

• The vouchers will be issued as follows

Direct Supply of NRTWe carried out an online survey to ascertain clients views on direct supply of NRT. The

survey was anonymous and a link was posted within the online support group. The group at

the time had 79 members and there was a 27% response rate.

• 31% said that a letter of recommendation would stop them getting their NRT and 31% said it

would reduce the chances they would collect it

• 7% said a NRT voucher would stop them collecting their NRT and 16% said it would reduce the

chances they would collect it

• 46% said that if their local pharmacy could not take NRT vouchers they could not travel elsewhere

to collect their NRT

• 62% said that if their partner or significant other had to pay for their NRT they would not have

engaged
