Program Steps:

Step 1

•Contractor works with Commercial Customer to determine which SMUD EV Incentive Charger Program is the best fit.

•Contractor performs a walk through: inspects service wiring for adequate capacity to supply the charging station, and confirms the panel size and meter socket requirements.

Step 2

•Contractor notifies Program Staff of the project. For DC Fast Chargers, the project must be approved by SMUD (agreement must be signed).

•Contractor submits drawings thru SMUD’s online portal.

•SMUD architect comes to the site to review the project and electrical needs BEFORE the project begins.

Step 3 •Contractor pulls a permit, completes the installation, and calls for inspection.

Step 4

•Building Inspector approves the installation, SMUD is automatically notified.

•Contractor requests sub-meter installation (note: must clearly state that only a sub-meter for statistical purposes is needed – NOT a new service meter)

Step 5 •SMUD crew is dispatched to install the sub-meter, and notifies Program Staff that the work is completed.

Step 6 • Contractor helps customer submit the rebate application. For DC Fast Chargers, incentive payments are based on completing specific milestones.
