FOR WHOM THE (SCHOOL) BELL TOLLS
Its not only the 80 Negro school children in Lincoln ave.
Methodist Church basement. Nor is it only for Negro parents who
face the daily shame of seeing their jimcrowed children deprived
of an equal education.
It tolls for everyone in our community, white as well as
black. For those who know better but would rather look the other
way as w~ll 'las th-6'cse who surt'er from it directly.
The Pasadena School Board and its Chief Agent, Robert Jenkins,
bear major responsibility for this situation. They not only ap-
prove the present jimcrow school arrangement but are doing all
they can to extend it. ) .
\I[e condemn Lincoln Metn-odist--Cnurch leaders and Rev. Dan T.owler
for permitting themselves to be used against the best interests of
the Negro school children, now in the basement.
We of Pasadena C.O.R.E. calIon the entire community to unite
in demanding the School Board reverse this dangerous policy which
is sONini th~ s~~ of racial hate and future violence.
Andx the way to do it is to vote NO on the school bond issue
at the upcoming election. This is the only language the School
Board apparently understands. We say not another dime should be
given them for the continued mis-education of Pasadena school
children.
