into the barrel. We pull the win-
ner’s name in May. Remember,
you have to be present to win.
And for those of you who like to
volunteer, we have so many op-
portunities for you to give back to
your community and your profes-
sion.
I am really looking forward to see-
ing all of you at the meetings and
events this year. You can find
them listed on the NDHA.org web-
site under Components and
Southern component.

Greetings Brothers and Sisters
in Dental Hygiene,
I would like to welcome all of
you back from your summer
vacations. We look forward to
a great year as we get ready to
resume our meetings. We have
many exciting continuing educa-
tion opportunities for all of you
this year. We’ll have topics
including addiction interven-
tion, marijuana, special needs,
perioscopy, and infection con-
trol in the spring just in time for
license renewal. You definitely
won’t want to miss Love your
Vendor’s Night in February cou-
pled with our students table
clinics. Last year was a huge
success and this year should be
just as amazing!
Due to our legislative com-
mittee’s efforts we have
opened the opportunity to
make a change to NAC 631.210
and NAC 631.220 giving hygien-
ists the ability to legally take x-
rays and periodontal probings
prior to the dentist seeing the
patient. The Nevada State
Board of Dental Examiners is
currently holding workshops to
approve and write these chang-
es and we’ll keep you posted.
I would like to encourage all of
you to bring a friend to our
October meeting. If you do
bring a potential member and
that person joins ADHA that
night, you both get dinner on
us! Not to mention the many
giveaways including the free
membership drawing we have
in May. For every meeting a

meet and greet. It’s an
opportunity for the men-
tors to meet their students
and have some fun!
SNDHA provided piz-
za, cookies, and much
needed support for our
upcoming graduates. Men-
tors provide advice and
lend a sympathetic ear to
the students throughout
their second year.
The students were also
presented with a check
from the continuing educa-
tion fundraiser given in June.
SNDHA contributed
$2700.00 to the students for
the table clinic competition
held each year at the AD-
HA’s Center for Lifelong
Learning. The funds will be
used for travel expenses.

Honored Dental Hygienists May’s meeting is always action packed with graduating students, continuing
education, officer recognition, raffles, and the board of trustees installa-
tion. However, we always take time to recognize very special people that
give to our community and our profession.
Two very special honorees this year were Nancy Dockery (pictured on
the left with Kelly Taylor on the right) and Laura Helber (pictured on the
right with Annette Lincicome to her right).
Nancy Dockery has been a fixture in our community for many years as an
excellent hygienist, instructor, mentor, association officer and now as an
exceptional practitioner for Future Smiles.
She is now a recipient of our highest honor, the
Southern Nevada Dental Hygienist of the Year.
It’s probably a long time in coming when I think
of how many lives she has touched in the pursuit of
excellence in dental hygiene. Anyone who knows
her will attest to her expertise, but also her constant
smile. She personifies professionalism and truly sets
the bar for the rest of us.
I’m also pleased to announce a Las Vegas newcomer
as another honoree from the May meeting. Laura
Helber has thrown herself into her profession and
volunteerism with great enthusiasm. Annette Lincicome bestowed her with
an award presented from the HuntridgeTeen Clinic for her constant presence
at the Teen Scene Saturdays hosted to provide dental hygiene for homeless
teens.
Laura is not only a full-time wife, mother, grandmother and hygienist, she’s
our SNDHA President and volunteers for almost every dental hygiene event
in the valley. We are so grateful for her dedication to our profession and our
unserved patients in need. I have to tell you that her exuberance and passion
is quite contagious and we are all looking forward to working with her for
years to come.
Congratulations Ladies! Heather Rogers

Huntridge Teen Clinic Mission and Services
P A G E 5
The mission of the Huntridge Teen Clinic dental program is to provide long
term, comprehensive dental care to teenagers, 12 to 18 years old, who have
no dental insurance. The clinic is a dental home for at-risk teens in Clark
County. Some patients at the clinic are homeless, but the vast majority of
patients come from low-income, hard-working families who are unable to
access the traditional dental care system. Recently, Huntridge Teen Clinic
has also begun seeing patients who are covered by Medicaid; however,
Huntridge Teen Clinic is not a Medicaid provider, and all Medicaid-covered
patients are treated as though they are uninsured.
All restorative dentistry is provid-
ed by volunteer dentists and/or
UNLV dental students. Volunteer
dentists may see patients at the
clinic, or they may see our patients
at their own place of business, uti-
lizing their own resources, which-
ever they prefer. As part of an af-
filiation agreement with UNLV,
third-year dental students rotate
through the clinic on a once-a-week schedule whenever the dental school is
in session to provide simple restorative dentistry to Huntridge patients.
All dental hygiene care is provided by Annette Lincicome, the public health
endorsed dental hygienist at the Huntridge Teen Clinic.
Patients are asked to donate $20 each time they visit the clinic, but the dona-
tion can be waived for any patient who has a fiscal hardship, and no patient
will ever be turned away for inability to pay.
I you ever have any questions regarding the clinic, its services, or volunteer
opportunities, please feel free to speak with Annette.
