Birth and Childhood 29 November 1901 in Sri Hargobindpur,

Distt.Gurdaspur.

Father S.Deva Singh was in India Army.

Mother Bibi Acchran.

At 15 joined Industrial School, Amritsar.

Did one year course of Art & Craft.

Career Joined as a draughtsman( Architecture) in

Indian Army.

Served in Baghdad, Iraq.

Left Army in 1923 and got married to Inder Kaur.

Started career in Drawing and Painting at Amritsar.

Later moved his studio to Lahore and Delhi.

Passion He sit at his Easel

for 18 to 20 hours.

His first painting was Sohani – Mahiwal at Delhi that gave him an instant fame.

Rated masterpiece of their painting collection.

In The Lap Of HimalayasAfter the partition Dar ji settled down

permanently at Andretta.

Situated in Kangra district of Himlachal Pradesh.

During the 38 years of stay at Andretta he painted hundreds of paintings.

Dar ji was skilled in Western classical techique of oil painting.

Achievements of Dar ji State Artist by Punjab government in

1974.

Padma Shri in 1983.

Degree of Doctor of Literature by Punjabi University, Patiala.

BBC made a documentary film in 1984.

Indian Government issued a postal stamp in honor of S. Sobha Singh in 2001.
