Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at

Goal A fun soccer practice drill is the 2 vs 1 with a shoot at the goal. As with every soccer drill

it is very crucial to have your players focused and hard working.

One thing you can do is to arrange a competition where the winners are awarded with a

gift or similar.

Name of the Drill Two vs One

Purpose Improving the attacking skills of your team

Drill Set Up This soccer practice drill is great for improving the attacking and shooting skills of your

players. Take 4 cones and set up a rectangular area. Both short sides of the rectangle

should have a goal just like on the image below. Place one file of players next to the left

side of both goals.

Performing The Drill Two players from the left file (The Blue Team) start to run at the same time while

passing the ball between them. One defender (The Red Team) performs a quick run and

attacks the player with ball trying to clear the ball away from him. The player without

ball should not be still. Instead, he should be moving and offering passing alternatives to

the player with ball.

If the attacking players manages to get around the opponent and finish at goal they should

step aside and let two new attacking players from the right file (Red Team) enter the field

of play. However, this time one new player from the left file should act as defender.

Equipment Needed Four cones, Two goals, Colored bibs, balls

Variants There are several variants on this drill. You could for example have 2 attackers and 3

defenders or vice versa. It is up to you to decide whether your team should focus more on

attacking or defending.

Page 2: Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at Goal

The starting formation of the Two vs One Drill

The two players from the left file start to run while passing the ball between them. The

defender from the right line attacks the player with the ball, trying to clear the ball away

from him.

Page 3: Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at Goal

The attacking player with the ball should either dribble and finish with a shoot or pass the

ball to the other player.

After finishing, two new players from the right file enters the field of play while the

player from the left file acts as defender.

Summary This drill is great for all ages and you should involve it often as a part of your practice

plan. However, as with every drill you need to encourage your players to work hard

during the drill sin order to benefit maximum from it.

Page 4: Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at Goal

Soccer Thru Pass Drill The soccer thru pass is a very important skill that each player needs to know.

This drill is a good way to practice on it and you should try to involve it in your regular

practice every third or fourth week.

Name of the Drill: Soccer Thru Pass Drill

Purpose: Improving your Thru Pass.

Drill Set Up: Have one teammate standing about 20-25 yards from (see the image). Place 2 cones

10-15 yards from you. If the distance is 20 yards to your teammate then place the cones

10 yards from you and if the distance is 30 yards then place the cones 15 yards from you

and so on. The distance between the 2 cones should be about 1 yard.

Performing The Drill Start with the ball at your feet, kick it few inches in front of you and perform a hard, well

pointed pass with the inside of your foot. You must pass the ball through the cones. Your

teammate should receive the ball with the inside of his foot and then pass it back to you

on the same way just like you did.

Variations One thing you can do to make the drill more fun is to count every successful pass (the

ball is passed through the 2 cones without touching them) as +1 point and every

unsuccessful as -1 point. Count the points after the drill is over. The player with highest

score is the winner.

Equipment Needed 2 Cones, 1 ball.

Summary During the drill you should try to use your both feet to pass and receive the ball.

However, I am aware of that one of your feet will always be the better one. But, if you

want to become a good soccer player you will need to play well with both feet. As you

become more familiar with the drill you should try to increase the tempo and cut down

the distance between cones to half yard or less.

Page 5: Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at Goal

Soccer Back Pass Drill Name of the Drill Soccer Back Pass Drill

Purpose Improving the accuracy of your back pass.

Drill Set Up Half of the players should create a ring. Each of these players should also have a ball.

The other half that is inside the ring should start to move in different directions searching

for free teammates with ball.

Performing The Drill The players with the ball should kick it few inches in front of them and wait for a

teammate to meet up. When a teammate meets up they should pass the ball on the ground

by using the inside of their feet. All players should vary their passing and receiving foot

while participating in this drill.

Variations The players may also use their head or instep to kick the ball. The players may also

compete with each other’s by counting the amount of successful passes. The one with

highest score is the winner.

Equipment Needed Cones, Balls

Summary As you become more familiar with the back pass drill you should try to increase the

tempo and your footwork

Soccer Training Drills - Break away and

Shoot More soccer training drills on this page...

Name of the Drill: Break away and Shoot

Purpose Improving shooting and finish

Set Up Set up 2 files of players just outside the penalty area (see the image). Place also one

player between the two files. This player will serve the ball to the attackers in various

ways. The red team should start as defenders while the blue team is the attacking one.

Performing The Drill The player in the middle plays the ball to the attacker. A defender starts his run at the

same time as the attacker. The attacker should try to finish with a shot as quickly as

possible while the defender should do everything he can to prevent him from shooting.

Change the roles after 5-10 minutes.

Variants: You may place your defenders closer to the attackers in order to make it more difficult

for the attackers to finish with a shot on goal. The middle standing player could also

throw the ball and force the attacking player to first regain control on the ball and then

finish with a shot.

You could also increase the distance to the 18 yard box in order to force the players to

shoot harder and with more accuracy. By doing this you will also give more time to the

defender to catch up and block the shot from the attacking player.

Equipment Needed Balls, One Goal

Page 7: Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at Goal

Drill Set Up

The player in the middle passes the ball to the attacker. The attacker should try to finish

with a quick shot while the defender should try to block the shot.

Summary A defender will rarely find himself 1 vs 1 with the goalkeeper. However, when the

situation shows up it is crucial for him to know what to do. That’s why defenders need to

play as attackers during this drill. Keep in mind to encourage your players to use their

both feet during the drill.

Free Soccer Drills – Pass & Shoot Directly This drill is a part of our free soccer drills section. You have permission to print and

download it.

Before we check out this drill I just want to recommend you a great resource of soccer

drills that I recently found. If you have some time over be sure to check it out. Now, let’s

focus on this drill.

Name of the Drill Passing and Shooting Directly at The Goal

Purpose Improving passing and shooting.

Drill Set Up Set up three files of players and place them outside the 18 yard box. The file in the

middle should have the balls.

Execution of The Drill The first player in the middle passes the ball to the first player in the left file who directly

passes the ball to the first standing player in the right file. The player in the right file

should shoot at the goal directly by using the instep or the inside of his foot. All the 3

players should rotate clockwise.

Equipment Needed Balls, Goal

Variants: A variant is to let the player in the middle act as defender after he plays the ball to the left

file. You may also restrict your players to pass and shoot with the weaker foot.

Setting up the Drill

Page 9: Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at Goal

The first player passed the ball to player two who directly passes it to player three. Player

three need to shoot immediately by using the instep or inside of his foot.

The three players rotate clockwise and three new players’ starts over with the drill.

Summary In order to benefit maximum from this drill your players will need to have a solid tempo

on the ball. You may restrict the players to use one touch on the ball but if they fail to do

so, you should increase the amount of touches to two or three. Make also sure that players

understand the drill properly before you launch it.

Page 10: Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at Goal

Youth Soccer Drills - ImproveThe Speed

With Ball Find more youth soccer drills here

Name of the Drill Improve the speed with ball.

Purpose Improve running with ball.

Drill Set Up The position of your players should be just like on the image below. Each of your

teammates should have a ball at their feet.

Execution of The Drill The first standing player in one of the files starts to run in a straight line with the ball. As

he passes the 2 cones in the middle, the other player in the opposite file should start to

run with the ball. During the drill you should encourage your players to use both feet

while running with the ball.

Variants This drill can be also done with 1 ball only. Simply, once the player reaches the other file,

he should stop the ball by either using the sole or some other part of his foot. The next

player takes over the ball and starts to drive it forward. As your players become more

familiar with the drill you should increase the tempo and the distance between the files.

Equipment Needed 6 Cones, 1 ball per player.

Page 11: Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at Goal

The Starting Formation.

Start to drive the ball forward.

Page 12: Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at Goal

Once the player reaches the other side, the first standing teammate starts his run.

Summary As with every soccer drill you need to encourage your players to perform it with

maximum effort. If your players performs the drill right you will soon notice

improvements in their ball handling and your team will start to play better.

Page 13: Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at Goal

Fun Soccer Drills – Head a Ball Over The

Net There are many fun soccer drills but heading a ball over the net is probably one of the

most popular.

I like to involve this drill as a part of my team’s warm up. However, it is up to you to

decide when to use it. You may for example add it at the end of your session as well.

Name of the Drill Heading a Ball Over The Net

Purpose Improving ball control.

Drill Set Up Set up two poles or similar and put a net over it. You could also use a badminton net

which is pretty cheap (15$). The field of play should form a quadrate and you may decide

self how big it should be. However, the mindre the field is the better. Every team should

consist of 4-5 players.

Performing The Drill Players may use all parts of their body to play the ball (beside their hands of course :-).

The team that fails to keep the ball in the air is punished by a penalty point. The team

with the highest score at the end of the drill is the winner.

Equipment Required For This Drill Cones, poles for keeping the net up, a net, Balls.

Variants on This Drill A variant is to only allow players to use their heads for playing the ball over the net.

The starting formation of the drill.

Page 14: Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at Goal

One of the players kicks the ball into play by sending it over to the other side.

The team that fails to send, the ball over the net is punished by a penalty point.

Summary This drill is one of my favorite. You may apply it to all ages and the players will love it. I

know also that many professional teams like to implement this drill in their regular soccer

training as a part of their warm up. If your players are new to soccer they may found this

drill to difficult and complicated. However, it is up to you to decide whether your players

have enough skills to participate in this drill or not.

Page 15: Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at Goal

Simple Soccer Passing Drill Name of the Drill: Soccer Passing Drill With The Inside

Purpose: Improve your passing skills by using the inside of your foot.

Drill Set Up: Have one of your teammates standing about 15-20 yards from you (see the image). Vary

the distance between you and your teammate in order to increase the difficulty of drill.

Performing The Drill Now, pass the ball to your teammate with the inside of your foot. The pass should be

accurate and powerful. Your teammate should receive the ball and then pass it back to

you on the same way as you did. During the drill you should try to use your both feet for

passing and receiving.

Make sure to be on your toes and don’t stand and wait for the ball. Instead, meet the ball

and imagine that you are playing a real soccer game with an opponent behind your back.

Variations Crossing or chipping the ball.

Equipment Needed Cones, 1 ball.

Summary This drill may not seem to be pretty fun but it actually is if you put effort and focus on performing it well.

You see, even a basic inside pass is something you will need to practice on no matter how good you are.

In order to become successful in soccer it is not enough to perform something well. You need to perform it

with perfection. It is therefore crucial to perform maximum during the drills (no matter what type of drill it

is) in order to succeed.

Page 16: Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at Goal

Offensive Soccer Drills The offensive soccer drills presented in this article can be adapted on all ages. It is a good

practice to demonstrate the drills for your players before allowing them to participate.

By doing this, your players will know exactly how to perform the drills and you will be

able to step aside and observe them in peace. Now, let’s check out the offensive soccer

drills…

Tight Space Dribbling

Purpose This drill is very efficient for developing both fitness and touch on the ball. The drill may

be performed at the beginning of the session and in conjunction with various warm-up

exercises. This drill has various purposes. Besides warming up your players, you will also

teach them to keep their head up while performing their moves.

Drill Set Up Each player should have one ball. Create a 10 x 10 yard rectangle by using cones or

similar.

Performing The Drill The players should be running around the field changing direction randomly and

constantly. This session should take at least five minute to perform. Make sure that your

players also try tricks, faints and turns. You should have a 1 minute break between the

session’s intervals.

Variations You may vary this drill on several ways. One option is to restrict your players to only

play the ball on the ground. It is always easier to hit the goal when the ball is player on

the ground. However, once your players become more familiar with this drill you should

also allow your players to cross the ball.

Equipment Needed Equipment needed: One ball per player, Cones or similar.

Page 17: Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at Goal

Summary Many amateur players tend to focus too much on the ball. They rarely look up to check

where the other players are; instead, they keep on dribbling until they lose the ball. This

is one of the most fundamental things in soccer and tight space dribbling drill is great for

this purpose.

Three versus three

Purpose The purpose of the drill is to practice on wall passes while trying to keep the possession

of the ball. The focus should not be on scoring, instead, the team should try to keep the

possession of the ball as long as possible.

Drill Set Up In this drill players should be in groups of eights. Six players will face each other in a 20

x 20 rectangle (3 players per team) with goals. The others 2 players should stand at each

side of the rectangle.

Performing The Drill The team that is in the possession of the ball is allowed to use the both side players.

However, the side players are restricted to only touch the ball once. They are not either

allowed to score.

Variations You may vary this drill on several ways. One option is to restrict your players to only

play the ball on the ground. It is always easier to hit the goal when the ball is player on

the ground. However, once your players become more familiar with this drill you should

also allow your players to cross the ball.

Equipment Needed Equipment needed: 8 bibs (3 different color), balls, cones.

Summary

Page 18: Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at Goal

This drill also enhances your player’s ball control, dribbling skills and fast turn & touch

action response.

Crosses With Finish at Goal

Purpose In following drill your players will be practicing on improving their finishing skills in front of the goal. The

main objective of this drill is not to score a goal. It is actually more important to hit the goal.

Drill Set Up To set up the drill you should have 2-3 players placed at each side of the field (see the image). Have one

file with players standing 5-10 yards in front of the penalty box.

Performing the Drill The first standing player in the middle file passes the ball either to the left or right. The player in the side

line starts his run. The middle standing player performs a V-run by running around the cone. He should

approach the goal slightly and then perform a fast run towards the ball once the side player passes it.

Variations You may vary this drill on several ways. One option is to restrict your players to only play the ball on the

ground. It is always easier to hit the goal when the ball is player on the ground. However, once your players

become more familiar with this drill you should also allow your players to cross the ball.

Equipment Needed Cones, balls, one goal.

Summary I know by experience that many amateur players usually focus too much on getting the ball past the

goalkeeper which often results in missing the whole goal.

The offensive soccer drills presented in this article must be performed with maximum effort. It is therefore

crucial to always encourage your players to perform their very best because hard work is the only way to

success. I recommend you also to check out this page for more offensive soccer drills. Wish you Good

Luck!

Kids Soccer Drills Kids soccer drills should be simple and easy to understand. Still, many coaches tend to

Page 19: Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at Goal

make them too complicated. As a coach, you need to understand that kid’s doesn’t like

complicated drills that require too much thinking.

Instead, they want something simple and easy. In this article I will present three drill that

you can use while coaching the kids. However, you may use these drills for all ages as

well. Now, let’s check out the kids soccer drills...

5 vs. 5 with Goals

Purpose Improving your players ability to keep the ball within the team.

Set Up Divide your team into two teams with five players per team. Place two goals (use cones if

you don’t have any). If you have 16-20 players you could either create four teams (five

players per team) or create two teams (seven players per team) and let the third team have

six players.

Performing the Drill The team who has the possession of the ball should try to maintain it within the team as

long as possible.

Variations The variations on this drill are many. You could for example restrict your players to only

touch the ball 3-4 times or let them play without any restrictions. However, I would

recommend you to teach your player to pass the ball on the first touch as this will develop

their overall game faster.

Equipment Equipment needed: 4 cones, goals (or 4 cones if you don’t have any goals), balls, 8

soccer bibs (two different colors).

Page 20: Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at Goal

Summary If you use real goals you could use two players to act as goalkeepers. However, if you use

cones, there should be no goalkeepers.

3 vs. 3 + 1 bonus player

Purpose Improving your players ability to keep the ball within the team.

Set Up Start by dividing your team into groups of 3 players. Use cones or similar to create a field

(15 x 15 yards). One of your players should act as a bonus player. This means that he will

be playing with the team that is in possession of the ball.

Performing the Drill The gray player will always play with the team that is in the possession. Players should

try to pass the ball on first touch as this will add more tempo to the game.

Variations You could vary this drill on several ways. One suggestion is to let the bonus player only

play with the team that is not in the possession of the ball. This drill doesn’t require goals

but I recommend you to use them as the players will be more motivated.

Equipment 4 cones, goals (or 4 cones if you don’t have any goals), balls, 7 soccer bibs (three

different colors).

Summary The main focus in this drill should not be scoring as many goals as possible. Instead,

restrict your players to pass the ball within the team at least 10 times before they are

allowed to score.

Page 21: Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at Goal

Dribbling Cones

Purpose Improving your players overall dribbling skills.

Set Up Separate your team into groups of 4-5 players. Place one cone in the middle and 2 cones

at each side (5 yards from the middle cone). Both first standing players in the two lines

should start to drive the ball forward. When they are about half yard from the middle

cone they should perform a move (step over, fake kick or similar).

Performing the Drill The red players should run to the left after they have performed the move and the blue

players should run to the right. When they are 1 yard from their respective lines they

should pass the ball to the first standing player and then jog at the back of that file.

Variations You may vary this drill by restricting your players to perform one specific move. I

recommend you to start out with the fake kick move as it is the easiest move to perform.

Once your players are comfortable with the drill you should involve other more difficult

moves.

Equipment 5 Cones, 2 balls.

Summary Your players should focus on performing moves that they can use in a regular soccer

game. Do not let them practice on some freestyle tricks because your players will rarely

benefit from these in a regular competition.

To find more kids soccer drills and other drills as well check out this link.

3 Efficient Soccer Dribbling Drills Soccer dribbling drills are very popular among players as they allow them to perform

various and cool moves.

One thing you should keep in mind is that you need to make your players aware of that

Page 22: Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at Goal

they should always try to pass the ball on the first touch (during the games). With other

words, they should only dribble when they have no other passing options.

Soccer Dribbling Drills - 1vs1 With Finish at The Goal

Purpose The purpose of this drill is to improve your players abilities to beat their opponents in 1

vs 1 situations and to improve their finishing skills as well.

Drill Set Up Place your defenders at the left side of the penalty box and your attackers one yard

outside the half circle (see image). Each of your attackers should have a ball at their feet.

Execution of The Drill One of your defenders at the left starts the drill by jogging into the area between the two

cones. Once defender is on the place, the first standing attacker should start to dribble the

ball forward. When the attacker passes the line between the 2 cones and enters the 18

yard box he should start to challenge his defender by performing different moves. Once

he manages to get around his defender, the attacker should directly finish at the goal.

Equipment Needed Balls, practice vests, 2 cones

Variants A variant on this drill is to instruct your defenders to act passive which means that they

Page 23: Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at Goal

should not necessarily clear the ball (even if they have the chance).

Summary This drill is one of my top three dribbling drills. As I said before; it is great for improving

your player’s ability to beat their opponents in 1vs1 duels while practicing on their

finishing skills as well.

Soccer Dribbling Drills - 1vs1 With Cones and Finish

Purpose This drill is aimed to improve your players speed with the ball, their dribbling skills in 1

vs 1 situations and ability to finish efficiently. It is pretty similar to the drill above but in

this case I have added an extra moment.

Drill Set Up Your defenders should be standing in a line at the right side (grey) of the penalty box

while the attackers (red) should be at the left and in a line as well (see image above).

Place 5 cones in the front of your attacking line with a half yard space between every

cone.

Execution of The Drill The first standing attacker starts the drill by performing a quick run between the cones

while keeping the ball under control. When he is at the third cone, one of your defenders

should perform a quick run into the penalty box and place himself on the same way like

on the image above. When the attacker enters the 18 yard box, he should try dribble his

defender and finish at the goal.

Equipment Needed

Page 24: Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at Goal

5 cones, practice vests, balls

Variants Possible variations on this drills is to exclude your defenders and replace them with a

cone.

Summary This drill is similar to the 1vs1 With Finish at The Goal drill but will beside improving

your players dribbling and finishing skills also increase their ability to control the ball

under run.

Soccer Dribbling Drills - 1vs1 Race

Purpose Practicing on your player’s ability to perform several different moves in a row while

maintaining the control of the ball

Drill Set Up Place the cones on the same way like on the image above. The space between the cones

should be one yard or so. Separate your players into 2 equal lines. Create also a finish

line at the end of the last cone.

Execution of The Drill Two of the first standing players intakes a starting position just like on the image above.

Once your blow the whistle they should perform an optional move at the first cone,

quickly run with the ball to the second cone, perform an optional move again and

continue to do so until they pass the finish line. When both players are over the finish line

two new player’s intakes their positions and the drill starts over again. The team with

highest amount of won races is the winner.

Equipment Needed Balls, 16 cones

Variants You can starts the drillvary this drill in several different ways. One thing you can do is to

Page 25: Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at Goal

force your players to perform a different move at each cone. For example, if they perform

scissors at the second cone they are not allowed to use it again. You may also increase the

space between the cones to three yards (or more) depending on the age of your players.

Summary This drill will force your player to take quick decisions during high tempo which is a

crucial skill when facing practiced opponents. Your players will also compete against

themselves which is a great way to increase the quality of your practice.

3 Soccer Finishing Drills That Will

Improve Your Players Scoring Abilities Players love soccer finishing drills as they allow them to score goals. There is no better

feeling than scoring a goal (even if it is on a regular practice).

Page 26: Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at Goal

Soccer Finishing Drills – Shoot at First Touch

Purpose Improving your players accuracy when finishing at the first touch.

Drill Set Up Set up two equal files of players on each side of the goal posts. Place two cones a half

yard from the 18 yard line (like on the image above). Each of your players should have

one ball at their feet.

Execution of The Drill The first player in the red line starts the drill by performing a quick run to the cone in

front of his line (see image). Once he has rounded the cone, one player from the grey line

should pass the ball slightly to him. The red player should finish the attack immediately

without putting the ball under control. Now, the grey player should do the same thing, but

in this case a red player would pass the ball.

Equipment Required One ball per player, 2 cones

Variants You may vary this drill by allowing your players to first receive the ball and then finish at

the goal. You may also restrict your players to only use the inside part of their foot.

Summary One thing that I want to underline with this drill is that you should instruct your players

Page 27: Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at Goal

to hit the goal (even if the shoot is loose), rather than firing a projectile that will end 30

yards behind the goal. With other words, in this case, accuracy is much more important

than the power.

Soccer Finishing Drills – 3vs3 With Wingers

Purpose Increase your players finishing abilities by using the various parts of their feet (volley, inside, instep) and

head as well.

Drill Set Up Create small teams, 3 players per team. Separate these players with different colored west’s. Place 4 cones

on the same way like on the image above. Place 4-5 balls near the two cones (see image). Place two players

that will be used as wingers at each side of the 18 yard box.

Execution of The Drill One of the wing players starts to drive the ball toward the cone that is located in the line with the goal.

Once your player is about half yard from the cone he should slightly cross the ball inside the 18 yard box.

The players inside the box should try to finish the attack with one touch on the ball. The team with most

scored points is the winner. Once the game is over (set the timer to 3 minutes) the drill should start over

with two new teams.

Equipment Required Balls, 4 cones, colored west’s

Variants Restrict the players inside the box to only use their head for finishing.

Summary The great thing with this drill is that you can use it for practicing on your teams defensive and offensive

skills as well.

Soccer Finishing Drills – Turn and Finish Quickly

Page 28: Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at Goal

Purpose Increasing your players turning and finishing abilities by allowing them to use maximum three touch on the

ball.

Drill Set Up Separate your team into two equal lines (see image). Add one cone in front of each line.

Execution of The Drill The first standing player in the red line performs a quick backward run to the cone. Once he raeach it the

second standing player in the red line should pass the ball to him. The first player should perform a quick

turn, run with the ball 2-3 yards and then finish at the goal. He should try to shoot at the 4 rectangle areas

(marked in the image above). Immediately after the red player has finished the attack, the drill should start

over with a player from the grey line.

Equipment Required Balls, 2 cones, colored west’s

Variants You can vary this drill by allowing your players more touches on the ball or have yourself acting as a

passive defender inside the 18 yard box.

Summary I recommend you to use this drill in the middle (or at the end) of your practice. The reason is that your

players could injure themselves if they are not warmed up enough. .

Three Soccer Practice Drills That Are

Easy To Set Up The soccer practice drills presented in this article can be adapted for all ages.

They are easy to set up and you will only need cones, balls and colored vests to involve

them successfully in the practice of your team.

Soccer Practice Drills - 6vs3 on a Small Field

Purpose The main purpose with this drill is to improve your players ability to seek up free space

and make them playable.

Drill Set Up Separate your players into small teams by using colored west’s (three players per team).

Create a small field and use cones or similar to mark the lines.

Execution of The Drill You should start the drill by having 3 different colored teams facing eachtohers. One

team should be the chasing one which means that the rest of the players would play in the

same team (despite that they are wearing different colors). For example; at the image

above the gray team is the chasing one, while blue and the red team are playing as one

unit. Once the grey team conquers the ball, the other team becomes the chasing one. For

example; if a red player loses the ball, his team would become the chasing one and vice

versa.

Equipment Needed Balls, cones, marking vests

Variants You can vary this drill by restricting the amount of touches on the ball or increase the

amount of players.

Summary This drill is ideal for warming up and will be highly appreciated among your players. I

would recommend you to use it every second practice or so.

Soccer Practice Drills – Three vs Rest of The Team

Page 30: Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at Goal

Purpose Improving your players defense and ability to control the ball under pressure.

Drill Set Up Create a rectangle shaped area and put one cone at the each corner (see image). Select three players and

place them inside the rectangle. The rest of your players should form a line with one ball per player. Make

sure to separate the 3 players from the rest of your team with colored vests.

Execution of The Drill The execution of this drill is pretty simple. At your signal, the players with the ball should start to run

towards the 3 players inside the rectangle. Once they have dribbled past them they should return to their

starting position and wait for the others. When all players with the ball are back on their starting position,

the drill should start over again. The player that manages to get around the 3 players most times is the

winner.

Equipment Needed Balls, vests, cones

Variants Another variant on this drill is to increase the amount of players inside the rectangle while decreasing the

size of the field.

Summary This drill is ideal for improving your players dribbling and defense abilities. It is also a great way for

introducing more competition in your practice sessions.

Soccer Practice Drills - 4vs4 With 4 Goals

Page 31: Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at Goal

Purpose To increase your players defensive and offensive abilities.

Drill Set Up Create a small field and separate your players into small teams (4 players per team). Place 2 goals at each

side of the long line.

Execution of The Drill This drill doesn’t require any advanced directions. Just throw in a ball and let your players start competing

against eachtohers. The team that scores mot goals is the winner.

Equipment Needed Balls, Goal

Variants You may vary this drill by restricting the amount of touches on the ball or increasing the number of players

in each team.

Summary Playing soccer games on small fields is a great way for improving your player’s ability to take quick and

right decisions.

Two Soccer Shooting Drills That Will

Improve Your Players Scoring Abilities You should never start your practice with soccer shooting drills. The reason is obvious,

your players will not be warmed up and could easily stretch their muscles.

This may (in worst case) hold them off the field for the whole season.

Soccer Shooting Drills – Using The Weak Foot

Purpose Improving the shooting skills of your players by using their weak foot.

Drill Set Up Create two files of players. Place the left footed players (red color) in the left file and the right footed

players (gray color) in the right file. Put two cones on the same place like on the image. The space between

the cones should be about 1 yard.

Execution of The Drill The first standing player in the red line starts to run slightly with a ball at his right feet (on the same way

like illustrated). Once he reach the 18 yard box, he should finish the attack with an accurate shoot at the

goal. Once he has fired the shoot, the first standing player in the right line should perform the same routine

(from the right of course). The only difference is that he will shoot with his left foot. The player that scores

most goals is the winner.

Equipment Needed Balls, cones, marking vests

Variants You may vary this drill by restricting your players to only shoot by using the inside part of their foot.

Summary Being able to shoot with both feet is very important in soccer. A player will become much more efficient in

the front of the goal if he knows how to fire an accurate shoot with both feet.

Soccer Shooting Drills - Accuracy Improver

Page 33: Soccer Practice Drill - 2 vs 1, Shoot at Goal

Purpose Improving the goal scoring abilities of your players.

Drill Set Up Use two cones (or similar) and place 2 balls on them (like on the image above). You may also skip the balls

if you can’t place them on the cones. Arrange your players in a line and make sure that each of them has a

ball (see image). Place two cones 1 yard from the 18 yard box line, with 2 yards between them. If you don’t

have a goalkeeper available you can put a net or similar (just like I did on the image above)

Execution of The Drill One of your players starts to drive the ball towards the 2 cones. Once he reaches them he should aim at one

of the cones that are placed at each side of the posts and fire a well accurate shoot. If he manages to strike

one of the cones he should run towards that cone, put it on the place (with the ball on it) and then continue

at the back of the line. The first player that manages to reach 10 strikes is the winner.

Equipment Needed Balls, cones

Variants You can vary this drill on several different ways. One thing you can do is to add a goalkeeper which will

force your players to shoot harder with more accuracy in order to strike the cones.

Summary This drill will be highly appreciated among your players whether they are U-4 or seniors. It is a great way

for increasing your players shooting accuracy while allowing them to have fun.
