FacebookFacebook is known to almost every internet user.

Facebook is a global social network, which hundreds of millions of users use to connect and share content.

Currently, Facebook has more than one billion users.

Facebook page allows users to become “fans” of pages and follow the page’s activity, share the page’s content and interact by commenting on the posts.

Pages can be set up by businesses or organizations and used to post news, events, links, photos and video. Pages offer some custom usability as well.

TwitterTwitter is a social network, but is drastically different than Facebook.

It is a micro-publishing system, which allows you to compose short messages of 140 characters that are known as “Tweets.”

To create your own Twitter community – you can ‘follow’ someone in order to receive their Tweets in your news feed or you can be ‘followed’ by others and they will receive your Tweets.

Another special characteristic of Twitter is the use of hashtags in order to reach a larger audience. By using a hashtag symbol (e.g. #Twitter), other Twitter users that are following that particular hashtag are more likely to see your Tweets.

Twitter ToolsTweetDeckTweetDeck allows you to use multiple handles and schedule tweets. It is a great way to monitor your timeline, incoming feed and not miss a tweet from those you follow. You may have (for example) different columns for ‘customers’, ‘news media’, ‘supporters’, ‘friends’ etc as well as the standard columns for your @mentions, direct messages, your own tweets etc.

Bufferapp.comBuffer is deemed the smarter way to tweet. It allows you to simply schedule your tweets to be spread throughout the day and has great analytics on your tweets which will help determine what your audience loves, or doesn’t, out of the content you share as well as the times of day you get the most action on your tweets.

Paper.li It is a unique application that allows you to collect tweets and curate them manually or automatically in a newspaper-style format which can be automatically shared daily on your Twitter account. This app is a great way to collect the top tweets from your followers, people on a specific Twitter list, or even anyone who mentions a particular #hashtag. It does drive a nice bit of traffic to sites mentioned by top users, so while some people may not like to be mentioned, others greatly appreciate it!
