Learning from our experiment

• Quicker access to expertise and expert resources

• Swifter innovation • Enhanced collaboration among early adopters

• Event planning : crosses company and even geographical boundaries

• Discussion boards : Enables multi-way communication creating a collaborative workplace that is replacing the traditional top-down style

• Bulletin feature enables controlled information dissemination

• Businesses now have a way to analyze and react to discussion of their products and services on social media sites (e.g. Autonomy)

“While we are organized in traditional ways in terms of sales, engineering, legal, and supply chain, our organization structure of the future will be all around communities of interest” -- John Chambers, CEO, Cisco

Learning from our experiment (challenges)

• Get buy off from your General counsel team, Educate them, Entice them

• To the social network, your value increases the more data you share on the site however that brings an interesting dilemma around privacy issues

• Security issues :

• Sites provides user access controls but the APIs circumvent the same access controls.

• Hackers are increasingly targeting social networking services like Twitter and Facebook. Many employees who log on during the day at work might be causing information security risks at their companies. But banning the technologies would be short-sighted

• Internal Support structure to manage the communication/discussions/issues

• From Marketing/PR• From Legal• From Tech support
