TRADE UNIONThe trade union is an organized association of workers in a trade, group of traders, or profession, formed to protect and further their rights and interests.
IMPORTANCE OF TRADE UNION• The existence of trade union is the prerequisite to
industrial peace.• Decision taken through the process of collective
bargaining and negotiation between employer and the union are more influential.
• The union is the effective way to communicate with the employers.
• The union provide the advise and support to ensure that the differences of opinion do not turn into major conflict.
• The union seeking healthy and safe working environment in work places.
CHARACTERISTICS OF TRADE UNION • Trade union come together for common goal and
interests.• Trade union is an association of workers and salary
earners.• Trade unions are basically voluntary organization. • Trade unions are egalitarian bodies.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF TRADE UNION• To educate the rank and file works so that the traditional
agitational role be gradually transformed into one of under standing and co-operation.
• To keep the dwell being and progress of the society constantly before then by way of refraining from unnecessary strikes work stoppage, go-slow intimidation.
• To protect the interests of the consumer which is usually lost sight of in bipartite agreement reached between the parties.
• To discharge their role in the success of the schemes for planned economic development of the country, maximizing production and distribution in equitable manner.
• To adopt themselves to charging social needs and to rise above devise forces of caste, religion and language and to help in promoting national, social emotional integration at all levels.
• To instil in their members sense of responsibility towards industry and the community.
• To organize the unorganized section of the working class in the rural and urban areas and help these groups organizing themselves.
• To encourage capital formation by supporting small savings scheme.
• To support modernization of equipment and rationalization programmes.
• To work for a stable social order by establishing industrial democracy and social justice
• To help in holding the price line by keeping a vigilant watch on price.
