Instructions

Use the the computer/internet, and books to find the answers to the questions.

Open the PowerPoint template on your desktop and write your answers on the template.

Insert a map of a continent of where leaf cutter ants can be found.

Click on “file”, “save as”. Be sure to save your work using your name in the “save as” part of the file. Save to the desktop.

Answer the following questions:

1. What does the word “colony” mean?

2. How do ants work together in a colony?

3. What does a colony look like?

4. What do the ants in the story do together?

5. Find a map of a continent where leaf cutter ants

can be found. Insert the map into the slide.

Science StationInstructions:

You will be exploring Web sites, using the Internet Quest: Ants! interactive, looking for information that answers questions from our “What We Think About Ants” and “What We Know About Ants” charts.

Click on Internet Quest: Ants! and follow the directions on the screen.

Be sure to answer every question and save and print your completed work.

Reading StationInstructions:

Read the entire story orally.

Reread the story with a partner, alternating pages.

With your group, reread the story again as a play, assigning parts.

You will each need to read more than one part.

Computer Station

Browse the web links listed in the Custom Google Search to complete the recording sheet.

Listening/Fluency Practice Station

Access the song “The Ants Go Marching” on the iPod.Use the headphones to listen to the song while you track the print with your fingers.Listen to the song again and practice singing while you track.Practice singing the song with your group WITHOUT using the music.Record your group singing using an iPod or digital camera.

Writing StationUse the NOVA 5000 to complete a graphic organizer using the Inspiration software. Click the START button to access the PROGRAMS menu. Then choose INSPIRATION. An “ant colonies” template willcome up automatically for you to begin filling in with Information found in trade books provided at the center.After you complete the graphic organizer, you can convertYour organizer to a document by clicking SAVE under the FILE menu.
