I am a September girl, and I am always energized in the autumn. Growing up in New England we had a deep respect for the seasons, just like the mid-west. The beauty of the leaves gave us that last glimpse of color before the winter white blanket of snow set in. Hikes to the tops of peaks always came in the fall to view the spectacular colors reflective of the vibrancy and changes of life.

And speaking of changes-it is finally here. The new Chamber database is filled with the information of 408 businesses, organizations, and non-profits in Norton County. The website has launched and you can view it at www.DiscoverNorton.com . While this is only the preliminary site, we have unlimited changes and updates we can make keeping this valuable tool more and more relevant to your needs.

Thank you for those who have returned the Business Data Sheets which we will use to update the database information for your business website descriptions. Please send us your LOGOS so that your listing will better reflect your branding. Please send JPEG or PNG files only. Platinum members will have the opportunity to post photo galleries, videos, and much more. All Chamber members receive an enhance listing for a robust business presence.

REMEMBER: In September will be sending ALL businesses a link to login to a business portal which you will be able to use to update your business profile, post jobs, list events, and much more. At the top of the website below our logo, is a member Login link. Next, we will introduce training sessions to be sure you know how to keep your information updated. A healthy business climate and a vibrant community are inseparable!

A few more important reminders of some spectacular things happening this month. Our Photography Contest is in full swing with $1,000 in prizes sponsored by the Chamber, Norton City/County Economic Development, and Norton County Magazine. Deadline is Sept. 26th to enter. Plan to attend the Sept. 7th Art Walk sponsored by the Norton County Arts Council! Dean and I will be with the NW Kansas Travel Council at the Explore Kansas tent promoting our community and region at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson. https://www.kansasstatefair.com/ The Chamber will have an information booth on Hwy 36 during the Treasure Hunt to hand out maps, and we invite you to check out a new book Route 36: Ohio to Colorado – America’s Heartland Highway by Allan McAllister Ferguson. Allan will be stopping by on his Hwy 36 travels during this busy weekend and we will be introducing his new book to everyone. Lastly, you will be hearing from MetroMedia for your opportunity to advertise on the new Sebelious Reservoir & Prairie Dog State Park MAP. A letter is attached which talks about it in detail. Just give me a call if you have any questions!

Donna

Tourism Update by Lee Ann Shearer -Chairperson/They Also Ran Gallery/First State Bank Travel & Tourism Report:

Metro-Media will be contacting local businesses to see if they would like to advertise on the Sebelius Lake/Prairie Dog State Park Map Publication. This is a great opportunity to be part of a really nice updated Map with all the improvements at Prairie Dog State Park. The last map was published in the year 2000!

Make sure to take in the Highway 36 Treasure Hunt the weekend of September 20, 21 and 22. Look for additional information on Flip 36. It is a fun way to recycle and repurpose an item that you buy during the Treasure Hunt.

Day-Tripping: Cruising Through Paradise: One Port at a Time

We get stopped all the time and get asked why we think cruises are the best family vacation. It usually starts out with “Will I get seasick?”; “How many people are on board?’ “Isn’t it expensive?” The answers are: You might but probably not, A LOT, and NO WAY!

What Cruises OfferValue: Cruises are all-inclusive. Once you get to your room and unpack everything is included. Dining, entertainment, Teen and kid’s clubs are all included in the price. It is the most cost-effective family vacation we have ever taken.

Family Friendly: There is something to do for every member of your family in a safe and controlled environment. From Harry Potter trivia to family scavenger hunts, the comedy club, Broadway shows, teen and kid’s only nightclubs, casino, slumber parties, and the list goes on and on. During our last cruise, our son was the ship’s foosball champion (he has a medal to prove it).

Variety: The ship is a destination in itself. On our last cruise, the ship featured an on-board waterpark. While others feature IMAX theaters, trampoline parks, 4-D theaters. The dining is out of this world. Some ships feature specialty restaurants (additional charge may apply) such as Sushi Bars, Italian, Seafood, steak houses, Mongolian grills. You literally get tired of looking at food by the end of a cruise.

Destinations: With all this talk about the ship, don’t forget you actually dock in some of the most beautiful destinations in the world. From Spain and Italy to Alaska, Hawaii and the Caribbean there is a cruise going to where you want to visit. We’ve gotten to experience hugs from a sloth, floated down a river in the middle of a jungle, visited Mayan pyramids, and most recently snorkeled the world-famous Blue Channel in Roatan.

Quiet Time: You would think being on a ship with 4,000 other people might be a bit crowded, think again. Most ships offer adults-only areas designed to allow you to just relax. Giant canopy beds, hot tubs and lounges that I have literally fallen asleep abourd on these ships. My wife and I always make it a point at least once each cruise to get up early, get a coffee or hot chocolate, and watch the sun come up on the water from one of those quiet spots.

People: Our favorite part about cruising are the people we meet. The crew become like members of the family. After the first night they call you by name, know how you like your coffee, and even get up and dance with your kids. We always dread the last night of the cruise when we have to say goodbye to our servers, waiters, and stewards.

So…you ask “Why go on a cruise? We say “Try it, and you’ll know exactly why!!”.

PRESS RELEASE FLIP 36

Sponsored by: Nickellknacks & Co (Lari Ann Nickell)

Back Porch Designs (Pam Cuthbertson)

Norton County Arts Council

Norton Chamber of Commerce

US Highway 36 Association

.

NORTON, KS 08/19/2019 —The idea behind Flip 36 is of course to promote the US Highway 36 Treasure

Hunt as well as encourage family and friends to participate in a simple idea that is so much fun. We are

excited to launch this project in Norton County with hopes that other communities along the route will pick it up

also.

What is Flip 36? It’s a fun way to recycle, repurpose, and reduce waste that would potentially end up in

landfills. It’s creative time with friends or family, and it’s a good reason to step out of your comfort zone and

experiment with new materials or tools.

Teams consisting of 2-4 people will compete for cash prizes by purchasing items at the garage sales during the

Highway 36 Treasure Hunt and then repurposing them. Teams will have until November 1st to complete their

project. On November 9th at 7:30 pm, the items will be sold at an auction to the public. Winners will be

determined upon percentage of profit. The auction proceeds after cash prizes have been awarded will be

donated to the USD #211 and USD #212 ART departments.

“80% of the items that are left over from garage sales end up at our local landfills. That percentage is

staggering. Flip 36 is a fun way to repurpose garage sale or thrift items while enjoying time with family

and friends. It’s a small contribution to our community that anyone can do.” said Lari Ann Nickell,

Event coordinator.

Nex-Tech Ranked Among World’s Most Elite 501 Managed Service Providers 12th Annual MSP 501 Identifies Top Global MSPs & Trends in Managed Services HAYS Kan, August 20, 2019: Channel Futures named Nex-Tech as one of the world’s premier Managed Service Providers (MSP). At number 171 on the MSP list of 501, Nex-Tech, a leader in rural technological connecvity, placed strong amongst the pool of mul-billion dollar global companies. Every year, MSPs worldwide complete an extensive survey and applicaon process where applicants report product offerings, growth rates, annual total and recurring revenues, pricing structures, and revenue mix. The MSP ranking methodology aributes weight to a company’s ability to align business strategy with trends in the ever-evolving channel ecosystem. “Evoluon with an eye on the future is not a new concept for Nex-Tech. Beginning with simple telephone service over 60 years ago, Nex-Tech connues to provide state-of-the-art services to customers, said Jimmy Todd, CEO and General Manager. “With an eye toward the future, we remain focused on building the necessary infrastructure alongside the associated technologies necessary for co-existence in a global community.” In the 12 years since incepon, the MSP 501 has evolved from a compeve ranking list to a dynamic interface between service providers, vendors, distributors, consultants, and industry analysts working together to define growing managed service opportunies. “The 2019 MSP 501 winners are the most elite, innovave and strategic IT service providers on the planet, and they stand as a model of excellence in the industry,” says Kris Blackmon, Content Director of Channel Partners and Channel Futures and lead of the MSP 501 program. An added benefit to the MSP 501 ranking is the creaon of an annual in-depth study of business and technology trends in the IT channel, released each year at the Channel Partners Evoluon conference. The full MSP 501 Report leverages applicant responses, interviews with industry experts and historical data to give a well-rounded picture of the managed services opportunity. The complete 2019 MSP 501 list is available here: hps://www.channelfutures.com/msp-501/channel-futures-reveals-2019-msp-501. Background The 2019 MSP 501 list is based on data collected by Channel Futures and its sister site, Channel Partners. Data was collected online from March 1 through May 31, 2019. The MSP 501 list recognizes top managed service providers based on metrics including recurring revenue, growth and other factors.
