The Society of Thoracic Radiology will host its 37th Annual Meeting March 24-27, 2019 at Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort and Spa in Savannah, Georgia. The program committee, headed by President-Elect Caroline Chiles, MD, in collaboration with Educational Committee Chair, Jeffrey Kanne, MD has designed an outstanding, comprehensive postgraduate radiology course in cardiothoracic imaging.

The course curriculum covers a variety of cardiothoracic imaging topics including lung cancer screening, diffuse lung diseases, quantitative imaging, big data and deep learning, pulmonary infections, oncologic imaging and interventional management, evidence-based imaging and educational topics, cardiothoracic emergencies, and cardiovascular imaging, physician wellness and regulatory issues. Self-assessment modules (SAMs) will provide important opportunities for maintenance of certification and life-long learning needs.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE 2019 MEETING INCLUDE:• The Benjamin Felson Memorial Lecture - Beyond Lung-RADS: Current Challenges in Lung Cancer

Screening will be given by Betty Tong, MD on Monday, March 25th at 8:15am. The Gordon Gamsu Lecture is entitled Proton Therapy for Thoracic Cancers: Hype or Promise in 2019 to be presented by James Urbanic, MD. The Scanlon Lecture topic is A Programmatic Approach to Reducing Lung Cancer Mortality in Populations to be presented by Raymond Osarogiagbon, MD. Dr. Johnny Vlahos will join our invited lecturers in a Thoracic Tumor Board, with cases presented by Dr. Michelle Ginsberg.

• Geoffrey Rubin, MD has graciously agreed to return as host of the popular session, “Cardiothoracic Conundrums: Cases that Amaze and Inform.” Submit your best cases for the opportunity to entertain and educate your colleagues and maybe even take home the 2019 Conundrum trophy!

• Monday afternoon is an opportunity to catch up with colleagues golfing, playing tennis, cycling, fishing, shopping, touring, or just relaxing by the pool with umbrella drinks.

The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort and Spa is located in the Savannah River District adjacent to the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center. It is a quick ferry ride across the harbor to the historic district of downtown Savannah. Facilities include a PGA championship golf course, Har-tru tennis courts, spa facilities, a tranquil riverside pool oasis and more. If you are a naturalist, the Lowcountry offers a wide variety of wildlife in marshland and coastal settings. I plan on doing a little fly fishing while on the coast. I have already begun researching the food scene which currently boast the 2018 James Beard Award-winning Best Chef and Best Restaurant, Mashama Bailey, at her restaurant, The Grey.

This meeting promises to have something for everyone both personally and professionally. Hope to see ya’ll in Savannah! fro

COURSE DESCRIPTION

ACCREDITATION INFORMATIONThe Society of Thoracic Radiology is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians. The Society of Thoracic Radiology (STR) designates this live activity for a maximum of 25.50 AMA PRA Category 1CreditsTM

Physicians should claim only credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

FOUR SELF-ASSESSMENT MODULES (SAM)Certified by the American Board of Radiology

STATEMENT OF NEEDRadiologists and practitioners with an interest in the science and practice of cardiothoracic imaging need to acquire comprehensive knowledge of the diagnosis, imaging, and management of affected patients to achieve excellence in delivery of care.

TARGET AUDIENCEThis course is designed for cardiothoracic radiologists, diagnostic radiologists, pulmonary medicine specialists, cardiothoracic surgeons, and fellows and residents with an interest in cardiothoracic imaging. Because of the prevalence of diseases of the chest in the general population, the course will also be of value to internists and family physicians.

COURSE OBJECTIVES1. Explain the role of imaging in the assessment of

cardiac disease including diseases of the heart, coronary arteries, aorta and pulmonary arteries

2. Recognize the role of imaging in screening and diagnosis of lung cancer

3. Participate in a multidisciplinary approach to staging, and management of lung cancer and other thoracic neoplasms

4. Apply the clinical and radiological evaluation and management of pulmonary nodules

5. Describe emerging applications in radiography, ultrasound, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, molecular imaging in the evaluation and management of thoracic diseases

6. Discuss the multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and management of diffuse lung diseases

7. State current applications of quantitative imaging and possible future uses

8. Identify new topics in thoracic imaging, including big data, radiomics, and texture analysis

Thoracic Imaging 2019 is the 37th Annual Meeting and Postgraduate Course of the Society of Thoracic Radiology. This 4-day course features internationally recognized experts on the subjects of imaging of the lungs, heart, thoracic vasculature, mediastinum, and pleura.
