Presentation Software is used to display high quality media presentations.

Usually, presentations are in a slide show format, with someone explaining and directing the presentation.

Most presentation software includes themes or templates that the developer enters their own information into. The theme will follow a format or style that uses good design principles.

All media types can be integrated into a presentation software production.

One of the most successful media types for presentation software is animation.

Animations can be timed, cued, or include transitions for slides and objects. Pre made animations are also supported.

Charts, graphs and tables are able to be created, edited or inserted into a document.

Two different ways of including different media types is embedding and linking.

Applications

Embedded media is imported from a source file to a destination file. When changed outside the document, embedded media will not reflect the changes in the document.

Linked media does not make a copy of the source ifle, but rather links a source and destination file together. When source file is changed, the document will change as well.

A word processor file (wp.doc) contains an imported bitmapped image (img.jpg) Img.jpg is edited and changes occur in wp.doc Img.jpg is edited and it does not change in wp.doc The image is opened and edited in wp.doc. Later

img.jpg also has changed. The image is opened and edited in wp.doc.

However img.jpg has not changed. Where would linking or embedding be more

appropriate?

Multimedia authoring packages are used to design and create multimedia productions.

Different media types can be inserted into a multimedia system, including video, audio, etc.

There is a huge range of authoring software packages, the larger ones may be able to create a broad range of productions, wheras smaller ones tend to be more specific but much easier to use.

Animation Software

Most presentation and authoring software are able to animate transitions, buttons, menus, text and images. These include Flash, PowerPoint, inote keynote and more. There are also many programs that specialise in animation creation. Two of these are Xara3D and Toon Boom Studio.

There is a huge range of applications catering to different needs of developer, from amateur to professional, those who prefer writing in HTML (such as WordPad, NotePad) to those wanting a WYSIWYG interface (Adobe Dreamweaver, NVU, FrontPage, Pubisher).
