Installing Solaris 11 Express Server in Oracle VirtualBox

Why Install “Text” (server)
● Oracle Solaris 11 Express Live CD needs > 2GB memory for performance considerations
– Requires system memory > 4GB exposed to VirtualBox in a Windows Environment
● Solaris is more of a server OE rather than a Desktop in most Data Centers

General Prerequisites
● Install VirtualBox
● Download Oracle Solaris 11 Express Text as an ~iso
● Download VirtualBox Guest Additions as an ~iso.
Create a New VirtualBox InstanceHard Drive
● Create Dynamic Hard Drive
● File, Media Manager
– Dynamically Expanding
– 16GB to start
Create a New VirtualBox Instance
Assign the Dynamic Hard Drive &Mount the Solaris 11 Express ISO
Start the Solaris Install
● CD will boot into install mode
● Note the “nevada” version

● Network – select Automatically

● Configure users and passwords
