solar power
TRANSCRIPT
What is solar power?
● Solar power is made from the light energy that comes from the sun.
● It is the conversion of sunlight into electricity, either directly using photovoltaics (PV), or indirectly using concentrated solar power (CSP).
● Concentrated solar power systems use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam.
The solar rays from the Sun are quite important for the life on Earth.

Charles Fritts
Solar energy has been used for centuries but the person who invented the first solar cell to convert sunlight into electricity was Charles Edgar Fritts in 1838. He was a world known watch maker, author, and inventor of many things. Fritts constructed a ‘selenium solar cell’ that was similar, in some respects, to the modern silicon solar cell of today.

Ways to Gather Solar Power:
● Photovoltaic panels
● Thin-Film Photovoltaic
● Concentrated Photovoltaic
Percentage of use: (%)
● Out of the 5% we see for wind, solar, biomass, and geothermal power generation, solar is only about 1-2%.
Why isn’t solar power commonly used as much as oil?
Solar power is not used commonly in the world because the price of gas is cheaper and it’s easier to get, or literally, it’s right under our feet.
