Independent Energy Study Substantiates the resultsC/S hired an independent engineering firm to model the energy and capital cost savings that an owner would achieve by using C/S ControllableSunshades on a ten story building in Dallas and four other cities throughoutthe U.S. and Canada. The test building’s facade includes standard doubleglazed low-E glass on all elevations. The results of the computer model inthe chart below show the energy usage/savings with and without C/SControllable Sunshades. The engineering firm utilized a recognized buildingmodeling program.

The�C/S�external�controllable�solar�shading�system�substantially�reduces�both�the�capital�cost�of�plant�and�the�associated�running�costs�for�air�conditioning.�A�21.1%�reduction�in�the�annual�cooling�energy�demand�(MWhrs)�is�achieved,�translating�into�a�savings�of�$137,160�per�annum�on�the�building�modeled.

External Venetian Blinds (EVBs) are a simple yet

effective solution to controlling heat and glare,

while allowing filtered daylight to enter a

building’s interior. And EVBs are the perfect

shading solution for retrofit application.

How EVBs WorkMounted in front of the window, external

venetian blinds reduce the sun’s heat and glare

before it enters the building. This operable

shading system tilts and moves up and down

to control the sun as required. The slats of these

blinds can be tilted up to 90 degrees to provide

shade from the sun no matter what position the

sun is currently at. The blinds are manufactured

from recycled aluminum, finished with powder

coat finishes and are cycle tested for reliability.

A variety of individual and building controls

C/S Solarmotion™ Technology

C/S Solarmotion mullions are designed for

typical spans. These sunshades are generally

attached to the building face with extruded

stand-offs to provide distance between the

sunshade and the building. The mullions

feature a clean, streamline design with no

exposed fasteners. C/S’ 3-dimensional

adjustable stand-off accommodates

construction tolerances in the building.

systems for our Controllable Sunshades.

Designers can select from simple blade

positioning vs. time of day controls to

sophisticated control systems that receive

inputs from the building management

system. We can even provide a control

system designed for different building
