Principles of OperationReactor Clarifier solids contact units combineslowturbinespeedsandhighvolumeinternalrecirculationtopromotemixing,flocculationandsolids-contact.Therecirculationsystemisdesignedtopromoteparticlegrowthandimprovetheremovalofsuspendedsolids.
Asinfluententerstherecirculationdrumitispumpedupwardsbyalargediameterslow-speedturbine,where it comes into contact with alargevolumeofdenseflocfrompreviouslyprecipitatedsolids(6to15timesthemaximuminfluentrateis recirculated to increase solids contact with the new incoming
feed).Theresultingeffluentispassedunderthereactionconetotheclarificationzone,withtheheaviestparticlessettlingtothefloor.Thesearethenrakedtothecenterforrecirculationordischarge.
Type HRBFormechanismsupto100feetindiameter.Thismechanismissupportedbyabridge,whichspansthetank.
Type HRCFormechanismsfrom50to200feetindiameterorlarger,ourHRCReactorClarifiersolidscontactunitsaresupportedby a stationary center column mountedtothetankbottom.

solids contact units feature an oversizedbaffledfeedwellandconcentricturbine.Flocculantismixedwiththefeedstreamandallowedtopassunderthewellintotheclarificationzoneofthetank.Thisturbineflocculatorconfigurationisespeciallysuitedfor medium to high strength flocs,whichrequiremoreintensemixing.
