Regional Clinical Practice Research Centre Message from the Director of the Centre
2012 saw the finalisation of plans for the $2.255M HWA funded Nambour Academic and Research Centre (NARC). Upon the completion of the NARC in mid 2013 the Regional Clinical Practice Research Centre will share space with the Sunshine Coast Hospital & Health Service Research Office, the University of the Sunshine Coast and the Sunshine Coast Clinical School.
In 2012 the Research Board and Health Service restructured the Clinical Trials team and processes. Combined with the opening of the NARC, this will enable an increase in clinical trials and conduct of original clinical research studies. The Centre experienced a significant increase in research activity throughout 2012 which is evidenced by the below snapshot.

Clinical handover is a vital aspect of continuity of patient care. Much of the focus of recent research has explored communication practices between nursing and medical staff at the change of shift. This project aims to establish the evidence base for delineating components of the clinical handover during preparation and transfer of a patient to the operative environment.
