Some challenges every 3D modeling artist will

encounter and their optimal solutions

3D modeling is really a complex matter and proper care has to be there to get things right. A

broken model that can’t be made print ready ruins the whole effort.

The errors that occur associate to many factors. False conversion is one of the main reasons.

The failure of software used for rendering can cause issues. Underlying are the most common

challenges that are encountered by companies offering 3D modeling services; their solutions

are also given.

Wall strength or thickness

Usually they stay at the value of zero or are very less. This will make the print job to crash

which should be avoided. Glued plastic should have minimum 2mm while ceramic need 3-6

mm and sintered materials 0.8-1 mm. You must decide the material to be used before setting

order for the model.

Pits in 3D Mesh or unmatched edges

Picture this: You are putting some nice apples in a net. The

ties in net are connected and everything is okay. But what

happens if any one of the ties get loose? The apples will be on

ground in no time. This is exactly what happens in case of

meshes of 3D files. When the printer detects a hole in the

mesh, it will mark your model as defective. Checking your

net in advance is the apt solution to avoid such mishap as per the companies offering these

services. There are several software using which you can scrutinize your model. Then you

can use repairing tools for closing the unmatched edges.

Boolean operations

While putting together several portions in 3D by shifting

and allying them visually, it seems to be already from

outside. But the fact is that in most of the cases, such

models can’t be printed. Experienced companies suggest

using Boolean operations as a solution to this issue.

Cavities or holes that can’t be printed

Holes are unavoidable in cases of certain models that are to be linked with hinges or screws.

Several print processes are there that demand cavities and this can cause problems. Whenever

necessary, escape holes should be there in the model that you construct. According to

professionals, 10mm is the ideal diameter for escape holes. In case if they are not straight

tunnel but seem to be a cave system, the holes should be bigger.

Every artist offering these services should be acquainted with the above challenges are their

solutions.
