Harvest progress is most advanced in the southern regions, where three per cent of the crop is now combined. Producers in the central and northern regions have less than one per cent of the crop stored in bins and expect to be harvesting in the coming weeks as crops mature.

Scattered rainfall covered parts of the province this week. Rainfall ranged from trace amounts to 27 mm in the Shaunavon area. Provincially, topsoil moisture on crop land is rated as one per cent surplus, 75 per cent adequate, 21 per cent short and three per cent very short. The majority of crop damage this week was from strong winds and a lack of moisture. Some areas of the province reported frost and, although it was reported to be a light frost, some crop damage may have occurred. Producers are busy hauling bales, getting ready for harvest, swathing, desiccating and combining crops. Southeastern Saskatchewan:

• Crop District 1 – Carnduff, Estevan, Redvers, Moosomin and Kipling areas • Crop District 2 – Weyburn, Milestone, Moose Jaw, Regina and Qu’Appelle areas • Crop District 3ASE – Radville, Minton and Lake Alma areas

Harvest is progressing in the southeastern thanks to favorable weather. Three per cent of the 2019 crop is now combined, up from one per cent last week, but behind the five-year (2014-2018) average of fourteen per cent for this time of year. Seven per cent of the crop is now swathed or ready to straight-cut.

Small amounts of rain were reported in parts of the region last week. Rainfall ranged from nil to 10 mm in the Glenavon area. The Moosomin area received 5 mm, the Weyburn area up to 6 mm, the Carnduff, Whitewood, Wilcox and Briercrest areas 2 mm, The Indian Head area 8 mm and the Frobisher, Odessa and Radville areas 1 mm. The Indian Head area has received the most precipitation since April 1 (360 mm). Topsoil moisture on crop land is 88 per cent adequate, 10 per cent short and two per cent very short. Hay land and pasture topsoil moisture conditions are rated as 79 per cent adequate, 17 per cent short and four per cent very short. Crop District 1B is reporting that 22 per cent of crop land and 42 per cent of hay land and pasture topsoil moisture is short to very short at this time. The majority of crop damage this past week is due to strong winds and a lack of moisture. Producers are busy hauling bales, getting equipment ready for harvest, desiccating and combining crops.
