Histoloji ve Embriyoloji AD
• Primitif düğümden köken alan hücreler paraksiyal mezodermi oluşturur.
• Bu hücre topluluğu düğümün yakınında longitudinal ve kalın hücre kordonları şeklinde ortaya çıkar.
• Her bir kordon lateralde intermediate(ara) mezoderm ile, bu da giderek incelen lateralmezoderm tabakasıyla devam eder.
• Lateral mezoderm ise umblikal ve amniyonkesesini kuşatan ekstraembriyonik mezoderm ile devam eder.

Somitlerin oluşum mekanizması
3. haftanın sonuna doğru, paraksiyal mezoderm farklılanıp yoğunlaşarak kraniyokaudal sırayla somit denen kübik cisim çiftlerine bölünmeye başlar. Bu mezoderm blokları gelişmekte olan nöral tüpün her iki yanında bulunur.

Tavuk embriyosunda gastrulasyon ve nörulasyon (A) Primitif oluk bölgesi, mesodermal ve endodermal prokursorlerin göçünün gösterimi (B) Notokord ve paraksial mesodermin formasyonu (C, D) Somitlerin, sölomun ve ilerde birleşecek olan 2 aortun farklılaşması. A-C, 24-saatlik embriyo; D, 48-saatlik embriyo.
• İnsan gelişiminin somit evresi sırasında (20-30. günler) yaklaşık 38 çift somit oluşur. 5.haftanın sonunda 42-44 çift somit vardır.
• Somitler embriyo üzerinde belirgin yüzetkabartıları oluştururlar ve transvers kesitlerde üçgenimsi görünümdedirler.
• Somitler 4. ve 5. haftalarda çok belirgin olduğu için embriyo yaşının belirlenmesinde kullanılan pek çok kriterden biridir.

Somitler ilk olarak embriyonun gelecekteki oksipital bölgesinde ortaya çıkar. Kısa sürede kraniyokaudal yönde gelişir ve aksiyal iskeletin büyük kısmı ve bununla ilişkili olan kaslar ile komşu derinin dermişini oluştururlar. İlk somit çifti 3. haftanın sonunda otik plakodun oluştuğu yerin biraz kaudalinde belirir. Diğer çiftlerde sırasıyla kraniyokaudal yönde oluşur.

Kraniyal somitler en yaşlı, kaudal somitler ise en genç olanıdır. Segmentasyonun düzenli ilerleyişi, zamana bağlı bir gen ekspresyonu mekanizması yoluyla olur. Aynı zamanda medulla spinalisten çıkan aksonlar somitlerdekii kas hücrelerini inerve eder, ki bu; medulla spinalisten çıkan aksonların uygun hedef hücrelere, doğru bir şekilde yönlendirilmesini gerektiren bir süreçtir.
