Beloved Family,

In case you haven’t heard me say it

recently, it is such an incredible

blessing to my family and me to be

able to minister alongside of you at

FBC Douglass! I am truly privileged

to serve as your pastor, and we love our church (you!) so

very much. Please allow me to express our thanks to you

for the generous outpourings of encouragement, prayer,

and gifts which you gave us during the “pastor apprecia-

tion month” of October. Between my amazing wife and

children and our beloved church family, I surely must be

the most blessed of men. I give thanks for you always!

“Give thanks in everything, for this is

God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (HCSB)

Speaking of giving thanks, it’s almost unbelievable

that Thanksgiving and Christmas are nearly here! During

this exceptionally special time of the year, we must be

diligent to acknowledge the LORD our God. Let us contin-

ually bring prayers of thanksgiving before Him as we

consider the innumerable ways our Creator, Redeemer,

Savior, and Sustainer has blessed us, both individually

and corporately, as a church.

“For unto us a Child is born.”

Isaiah 9:6 (NKJV)

Thank you, Father, for the miracle that was worked

some 2,000 years ago, when our eternal God humbled

Himself and chose to be born into His own creation:

walking as a man, living a sinless life, and dying for us

and our sin so that we might be reconciled to God.

Friends, may your holidays be abundantly filled with

every blessing from above; may the

peace of our God and Savior Jesus

Christ dwell in you richly, and may

the wonder of God’s truth fill you

with thanksgiving, hope, and love.

SONSHINE NEWS

Throughout the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons,

members of FBCD will have the opportunity to contribute

to several worthy missions causes.

Operation Christmas Child - FBCD’s Missions

Committee purchased 50 plastic “shoeboxes” for mem-

bers to use in support of Operation Christmas Child. After

taking the boxes home, members packed their boxes with

newly purchased toys, clothes, and hygiene items. A $7

donation helps pay for the shipping of the box to a physi-

cally and spiritually needy child around the globe.

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International

Missions will begin Sunday, November 27 and continue

into January, 2012. One hundred percent of funds contrib-

uted to the LMCO go directly to the mission field to sup-

port the ministry efforts of some 5,000 Southern Baptist

international missionaries. FBCD’s 2011 goal is $2,450,

although we have set a challenge goal of $3,100.

Douglass Holiday Food Drive - FBCD supports the

Douglass Ministerial Alliance in the collection and subse-

quent distribution of non-perishable food items to families

which are in need. Such food items will be collected at

FBCD through Sunday, December 11. An angel tree will

be available to provide gifts for the families’ children.

FBCD Student Ministry Diaper Drive - FBCD’s

student ministry is collecting diapers for Crisis Pregnancy

Center through Christmas Day, Sunday, December 25. All

sizes are needed, especially sizes 4 and 5.

FBCD to Seek Data Submissions

Directory, Database in Development

FBC Douglass is seeking to make

sure that our membership database

contains accurate information for all

members and regular attenders.

In order to accomplish this, we will

be distributing information cards to

you at some point during the next several weeks. These

forms will ask for such information as family names, an-

niversary and birth dates of all who live in the household.

Of course, physical and mailing addresses are needed,

along with communication data such as phone numbers

and e-mail addresses. Info given will be used for the min-

istry purposes of FBCD only, and a single, accurate data-

base will be of benefit to all ministries of the church.

We will publish a church directory using contact infor-

mation from these cards; however, you will have the abil-

ity to opt out of having your information published in the

directory. The directories will be available to church fam-

ilies, providing easy opportunities to “connect” and pray

for one another as well as facilitating our church prayer

chain. It has been a tradition for many years at FBCD to

honor birthdays and anniversaries by a card and special

recognition at the monthly birthday/anniversary meal

with the privilege to be “first in line!” Please be sure to

submit your information when cards are distributed!

FBCD Approves 2012 Budget Plans 24.35% increase over 2011; Missions increased!

In business meeting November 13, 2011, members of

FBCD unanimously approved the stewardship commit-

tee’s 2012 budget proposal. Following the morning wor-

ship service prior to the business meeting, a poll taken

among members present reflected a unanimous sense that

the Holy Spirit was leading FBCD to adopt the budget.

The budgeting process began with FBCD’s stewardship

committee seeking prayerfully-considered requests from

those responsible for stewardship of the church’s budget

line items. Upon receipt of these requests and prayerful

study and deliberations by the committee regarding the

ministerial needs of the church to accomplish our mission

to, “exalt the LORD God, connect people to Jesus Christ,

and nurture spiritual growth,” the budget was compiled.

At that time, it was noted that the budget was in-line with

current giving levels.

The budget for fiscal year 2012 is $157,650, reflecting

an increase of $30,875 (24.35%) compared to the 2011

budget. The 2012 budget reflects significant increases in

FBCD’s financial support of missions. For 2012, Cooper-

ative Program giving was increased from 10% to 11%.

Support of the South Central Association of Southern

Baptists was increased from 5.5% to 7.0%. Giving to

Webster Conference Center remains at 2.0%. Additional-

ly, $6,000 is set aside to support church planting efforts,

and at least $2,500 is available to aid members of FBCD

willing to participate in missions projects.
