The grant was offered for over a period of 36 months to purchase instruments, sound system and hire music and dance teachers for the program. Last year we received $32,400 of the grant from the Trillium Foundation, which enabled us to hire music and dance teachers as well as purchase a sound system and in- struments such as keyboards, drums, guitars, tabla, and a har- monium. In June of 2014, we officially began keyboard lessons with an initial class of 10 students. Today, we have increased that number to 20 students, and we hope to continue to gener- ate interest. The music program is a very active and impor- tant part of SOPCA and the Ontario Trillium Foundation has helped the music program flourish. SOPCA RECEIVES 2014 OTF GRANT

In May of 2014, the Screen of Peel Community Asso-

ciation proudly announced that we received the Ontario

Trillium Foundation (OTF) Grant to fund our traditional

and contemporary music program for Tamil youth in the

Peel region. The grant was offered for over a period of 36

months to purchase instruments, sound system and hire

music and dance teachers for the program.

Last year we received $32,400 of the grant from the

Trillium Foundation, which enabled us to hire music and

dance teachers as well as purchase a sound system and in-

struments such as keyboards, drums, guitars, tabla, and a har-

monium.

In June of 2014, we officially began keyboard lessons with an

initial class of 10 students. Today, we have increased that

number to 20 students, and we hope to continue to gener-

ate interest. The music program is a very active and impor-

tant part of SOPCA and the Ontario Trillium Foundation

has helped the music program flourish. The SOPCA music

group performs live biannually and are enjoying the new ad-

ditions to the music program!

In addition to the music program, SOPCA has ex-

panded its appreciation for the art of dance! SOPCA estab-

lished classes various types of dance including, bharathanat-

yam, kuchupudi and fusion. The dance program has grown

quickly, with more students learning and performing at

SOPCA programs.

The music and dance program have become very suc-

cessful and we thank the Ontario Trillium Foundation

for their support in making this possible!

COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION

SOPCA in the Community

As an organization, SOCPA values the community and its

members greatly. We believe in giving back to the com-

munity that has given us so much. We have undertaken

many initiatives in order to contribute to our community.

In 2013, SOPCA enrolled in Mississauga’s Adopt A Park

program and committed to keeping Cedarbrae park,

located at 565 Lolita Gardens Road, a clean and inviting

place for residents. Groups of SOPCA volunteers com-

mit 2 to 3 days in the year to cleaning the park.

Other community initiatives include organizing annual

blood donation clinics and collecting donations for the

food bank. While we organize annual events for the

aforementioned initiatives, we always encourage mem-

bers to continue participating individually through out

the year.

SOPCA held its very first annual Walk-a-thon to

raise money for Trillium Health Partners. We were able

to donate a total of $3000 to Trillium Health Part-

ners. We would like to extend our gratitude to all the

SOPCA members, other organizations, well wishers and

Ontario Trillium Foundation for their support in all our

community initiatives! Thank you!
