    Introduction

The theme of the project is Decay.

I will be looking at different artists/photographers to give me an ideaon what photos to take.

Then whilst taking the photos I will be focusing on the texture, surface area, subject matter, rust, colour and point of view of the

    photograph.

    Light room Edits

The image to the left is my edit of a photograph I have taken within my first decay Photo shoot, to edit this picture Iuploaded it into light room.

How I edited this picture was by changing the colour saturation to the green so that it was almost black, I then left

the rest of the colours for example the blue pot that has been cut out and also the brown on the wood and the bark.

Simple editing like this can add a whole new effect onto the picture, this specific one makes the green on the wood

look more madly and the grass looks as if it has died. All this fits in with the theme of decay.

The reason behind me editing this photo was to make it stand out more as the picture didnt look interesting . To

refine my work I could have looked at some artists/photographers and see how they have edited their photos andwhat they have take photos of.

    Decay Basic Edits

    Original Edit

The reason why I chose to edit this picture in lightroom was to experiment with the pictures I had taken on my first photo

shoot. To edit this picture I used lightroom, first I changed the colour to black and white then I added shadows around the dark

edges and lightened the white. This editing changes the mood of the picture as it looks more dull and old, making the

viewer of the picture think it is and old abandoned structure.

This editing wasnt very successful as the picture doesnt look as interesting as it does in the original, so if I was to useany

of these two photos I would go for the original one as their is more to look at colour and texture wise.

I have been influenced by the artist Minor White, as he take photos of old structures and changes their colour to sepia and

black and white. To refine my work I would add more colour into the edit, creating a different effect and mood and i would also frame the

    icture differentl .

    Decay Basic Edits

    EditOriginal

I chose to edit this picture because of the contrast in colours and the way the wood has been decayed over a long period of

    time.

This picture was a simple edit all I changed was the saturation of the red. Overall I would say I dont like this edit as thered

on the wood now doesnt look real and makes the picture look unprofessional, if I was to refine this editing I would frame

the picture differently by cropping the other pieces of the wood out, flip the picture around and try different colour

saturations and changing the whole or some of the picture to black and white.

The artist that I looked at to get my inspiration was Aaron Siskind and his work with different textures and colours.

    EditOriginal

    Decay Basic Edits

I chose to edit this picture as the peeling paint was a different texture and subject matter than the wood.

Aaron Siskind was an artist I looked at to help me edit this photograph as his work with peeling pictures inspired me.

The framing of this picture doesnt give much away about where the wall is, how big the wall is and if the rest of the paint ispeeling or is it just this specific point.

Using lightroom I added more shadows along the top and bottom of the wall to make it seem like the wall is slowly falling

apart, I then changed the colour from white to yellow to make the peeling paint stand out more, I then change the framing

of the picture making it bigger and giving it more subject matter.

Overall this edit was simple but effective I managed to changed the picture so that it gives a different perspective on the

paint and colour. I wouldnt use this picture in my final images as I dont think the editing was as successful as my others. So

to refine my work I would change the picture back to it original stage and try different techniques in photoshop, I would also

look at different artists that take similar photos to this then edit this picture in a way which they have done.

    Decay Basic Edits

    Original

I chose to edit this picture because I saw potential in the subject matter, this picture was my favourite out of all the decaypicture I have taken as it shows the theme of decay. There can be a lot of questions asked about this picture, as to why it

has decayed so badly, how long has the log been there for it to look like this, is it part of a structure, is that why it has a

    nail in it and more.

How I edited this picture was using lightroom, I increased the green saturation making this specific colour more vibrant, I

then increase the white on the spider webs to make them stand put more in the picture as spiders webs are a connotation

    of the theme decay.

If I was to refine my work I would decrease the saturation of the green to make it not the prominent colour in the picture Iwould also add so depth and colour to the screw to make that stand out more.

The subject matter in this photo could be the ripped paper.

The photographer could have been looking at the differentlayers within the photo, he could also be looking at the

texture of the paper and the ground. The mood that the

image portrays is dull and dark, as the paper looks old and

uncared for. As the colour is in black and white it changes

the mood because if colour had been used your mind would

view the image in different ways. The subject matter of this

photo makes it interesting as it makes you wonder what did

the paper say and why did it end up ripped. The techniques

the photographer has used is macro to capture a small

    section of the paper.

    Minor White

The subject matter in this image is the decaying pipe. The

mood portrays a sad and dark place because of the black andwhite used. The colour used in this image is more black with

shadows. What makes the image interesting is the angle and

style of the photo, the photo is able to make you think what

is this pipe used for, why is it there and when did it stopped

being used. The techniques that have been used by the

photographer is a framed shot as you only get part of the

    pipe.

The subject matter in this photo is the abandoned

shelters and benches. The mood is happy but with the

sun shinning through, that bring out the colours in the

background. If the colour was changed to black andwhite it would change the mood that the picture

portrays. What make the picture interesting is the way

the photo has been taken. Only part of the shelter has

been captured with a bit of the sea in the background.

That gets you thinking to why has this shelter become

the way it is. The techniques that have been used is a

    middle shot.

    Peter Marlow

The subject matter in this photo is the

tree branch that has just been cut

down. The mood in this photo is

portrayed as destruction. If the colour

was changed to black and white the

mood would be changed because it

would look more dark and sad. What

makes the picture interesting is the

framed shot that the photographer hasused to capture the image.

Artist ResearchDavid Hepher David Hepher is a British artist, he is known for hispaintings of buildings, especially tower blocks. The subject matter is this first photograph is the three

    types of buildings and windows.

The artist has used colour in this photo to draw you

into the different windows and types of buildings. The

colours in this picture are dull and subdued. With only

browns, reds and green beings used. The colours canalso be classed as a use of contrast because of the

greens and reds. The reds make the picture seem

warm and old, because of the colours used it effects

the mood because if brighten colours were used the

image could be portrayed as lively and happy, whereas

this picture is more of doom and decaying.

The way the buildings and shape of the windows

have been in this picture are simple, with each

section of the three buildings are symmetrical in

    shape.

This particular image doesn't have an illusion ofdepth as it is flat.

The pattern of the lines is important in this

picture because without them the shapes and

    depth of the windows/walls

The artist has used an angle of view as we are

only able to see part of the first building but more

    of the other two.

    Tapies

Tapies is a painter, sculptor and art theorist, who became one of the most famous European artists of his generation

The subject matter in this picture is the footprints, table and door all drawn in the sand.

There isn't any lines used in this picture except for the ones making the door. The artist has used little colour but the colour

that has been is effective. As the blue in the door attracts your attention straight away. This is the same for the bright

white/yellow colour to make what looks like a bench. The colours used are contrasting (blue and yellow), although they

aren't next to each other they still stand against each other in the picture. The artist has used both warm and cool colours.

The colours used stand out against the background, which draws your attention.

There is more than one focal point in this picture, the foot prints, door and wood. The foot prints are the most important inthis picture as it links the two other objects together. The background makes the chairs and door give off an illusion of 3D.

    Photoshop Editing

    Blending and Layering

Using photoshop I chose these two pictures that has

different contrast in colour, texture and image to blend

together, the reason I chose these pictures is because the

    subject matter is different.

The white bollard was to add more texture into the

    background of the locks gears.

By layering these two pictures it framed the locks gears

making your eyes automatically look at that, this would be

the subject matter of the two pictures.

Harry Gruyaer and Peter Marlow were two artists that

inspired me to make this picture.

    Photoshop EditingBlending and Layering

Using Photoshop and the blending and layering

side to create this picture, the reason for choosing

these two different pictures were for the textures

    and subject matters.

The rust on the pole makes the graffiti stand out

more on the final picture, this effect adds a cartoon

    style to the picture.

The editing on this picture is simple yet effective. I

like this picture as it fits in well with the theme of

    decay.

    Photoshop EditsBlending and Layering

Using Photoshop and the blending and layering side

to create this picture, the reason for choosing these

two different pictures were for the textures and

subject matters. Here we have a subject matter that is wood and

bricks, the blending of these two pictures hasnt

worked out as well as I thought it would so to refine

this picture I could choose either a different picture

to be blended, cut out parts or change the colour

saturation. I wouldn't continue to work on this

picture as I feel the outcome will be negative.

  • 8/12/2019 Sophie Rawlinson Unit 1 Environment 3

    22/101

    Hand Editing

Taking the theme of decay to a different editing technique I have created several

hand manipulated pictures that fit in with the theme, the first one I created was a

texture subject matter. To create the picture on the right I first used sand paper to add a rough edging and

make the picture look worn and old, I then used a pair of scissors and scratched into

the lies within the picture to add more depth.

I like this edit as it now has a cartoon look to it making it look more creative.

The difference in the two pictures is prominent therefore giving a whole different

effect on the before and after.

  • 8/12/2019 Sophie Rawlinson Unit 1 Environment 3

    23/101

    Hand Edits

After scanning the hand edits into

    the computer I used Photoshop,

to add another layer into the

    background, which was my first

texture edit (slide above) thenusing the blending setting

changed it to colour burn. This

effect works well with the two

    colours as they now compliment

each other and give a good

    outcome for my final image.

Further EditingTaking this picture and coating it in a layer of PVA glue gave

me the chance to add a glossy effect on top of the picture, this

then made the rust stand out more.

After the PVA glue had dried I then used a pair of scissors and

added scratches into the rust making it look more worn.

Finally I used a black biro and added depth into the lines of

the pole and around the rust.

All these different techniques worked well as the picture now

have more depth to it and stands out.

This picture can now be scanned back into the computer and

be edited even further to achieve the best outcome.

  • 8/12/2019 Sophie Rawlinson Unit 1 Environment 3

    24/101

    Hand Editing

Whilst using these new techniques I have discovered that sand paper gives off the best

effect on wood and it makes it look old and worn.

Taking this to mind I have used sandpaper on this picture and the outcome waseffective, the colours of the wood have gone from bright to dull worn and old colours

giving the picture a different mood and effect.

The continuing with the black biro I have added more depth in the lines of the wood,

this finishes off the picture and achieves a good outcome.

  • 8/12/2019 Sophie Rawlinson Unit 1 Environment 3

    25/101

    Hand Edits

The editing of this photo was simple but still effective.

I have crumpled the picture as much as I can to add new lines of depth onto the picture.

Then using sandpaper again scratched the surface of the picture.

Finally using the black biro added more depth into the lines.

This is my favourite hand manipulated edit as the two pictures are completely different in

    style.

To refine my work I would go over the lines to make sure they add as much depth as

    possible.

  • 8/12/2019 Sophie Rawlinson Unit 1 Environment 3

    26/101

I like this picture because they way the rope has been added looks as if it is 3D meaning there

    is depth to the picture.

This was done by cutting out the rope from another picture and gluing it to this background.I then screwed the paper up to give it more of the decaying effect.

By using a black biro too add even more depth to the lines it finishes the picture off.

Although this picture is creative I still this there is editing that can be dine to achieve full

potential so to refine my work I would continue working with different sets of images and use

    the techniques I have learnt.

Texture PictureUsing a craft knife I have calved out the middle section of the texture and then using PVA

I have glued it onto another picture to give two different types of textures.

And finally using another picture cut out a rope section to add a bit of detail to the

    photo.

I dont like this picture as it doesnt look professional but looks rushed, although to refine

my work I would try again with these techniques and see what new outcome I couldcreate.

    Further Editing

After finishing my hand manipulations, I scanned the edits back into the computer to add further effects, I chose to continue with this picture as I

thought it was one of the best, using Photoshop I increased the colour saturation of the picture and blended another picture behind, this gives

highlights onto the rust if the picture and the rope and depth. The final picture the s shape was changed to black and white, although this

picture wasnt fully clear the effect was still appropriate.Overall I think edit number 3 was the best outcome of this picture as it is effective and fits in with the theme of decay.

    Further Hand Edits

After finishing the hand edits I scanned my work

back into the computer and used Photoshop to

    edit them further.

This picture has been blended with another toadd another texture into the background.

The colours have also been darkened too add to

    the effect of decay.

I like this picture as the outcome was effective. I

would use this picture for my final images s it

shows all the techniques I have learned in thisproject.

The framings are similar as they

both focus on the object in the

    photo.

    My Image Jo Gallagher

    I have chosen this

    Gallagher because

    they both have a

    subject matter of a

    framings are similar

    as they both have

    only a small section

of the object in theline of view.

    Leading Lines

    Leading LinesExamples

Leading lines are used in photography to create depth.

They can be man made or natural, they can also be while taking the photo if the framing is correct.

In both of these photos the leading lines have been man made.

But by framing the shot the way both of these photographers have makes the image more interesting and effective.

In the left hand photo the lines are created by the benches as the are lined up one behind the other creating a path. The

railings along the steps are horizontal leading lines that guide your eyes round as the steps curve.

The photo to the right the leading lines are made by the railway tracks that turn into a vanishing point, these lines also give

    depth to the photo.

The two escalators on each also have leading lines. The final lines created in this photo is by the pattern on the roof and also the shape.

    Vanishing PointsExample photos

    Vanishing points

A vanishing point is where two lines converge together to create a point hence the name vanishing

    point.

These are used in photography to emphasis a large scale of landscape or add drama into the pictures

    taken.

Clearly the two photos have vanishing points that display a large area, they have vanishing points to add

a story to them, for example the moving walkway creates a story of where do the walk ways go to, why

are they there and how come the lighting is mainly blue, this picture gives a sense of happiness.

Whereas the picture of the building gives a sense of dull and sadness, this story is what is the building of,

how tall is it and why has the photographer take the picture this way.

So by using vanishing lines the photographer can create several meanings to one picture.

    Negative Space

With the use of negative space I was able to create two photos that have a small

    subject matter.

Negative space is described as the space in an images that is around a subject

matter. The subject matter can be big or small but as long as the space around is

    prominent.

    Berenice Abbott

Was an American photographer best known for her black and white photography of New York City

architecture and urban design of the 1930s.

The bridge photograph is interesting as there is many features included. The leading lines use draws your

attention, creating depth. There has been bright lighting used creating different tones on the bridge.

The building photo has leading lines creating depth. The colours used contrast each other, as the different

tones of black and white fade in and out. The shape of the building creates a 3D effect on the photo.

This photograph taken by Bill Brant took my eye when I first looked at it as the features within the shot are

interesting. The path and house are two completely different subject matters but link in well. The photo has

used leading lines several times. The path has leading lines used to create a vanishing point and depth.

The contrast in the black and white is well used as it creates shadows giving different effects.

There is a broad depth of field as the whole photo is in focus.

    Paper Constructions

The photo on the left, of all the different coloured buildings could help me in my work as I could

incorporate all the colour schemes and the way the photo has been set up. I can see how

different buildings have been put together to create this collage, this picture is effective as the

colour scheme catches your eye straight away and the style of how the construction has beenput together is different.

By researching about the paper constructions I am helping to refine my work that I will

produce later on in the project.

    3D Collage

After taking several photo shoots of architecture I then printed out several of the photos

and hand crafted them to make 3D collages of old and new buildings.

    48/101

After taking photos of architecture, I chose 10 photos to print out and started to layer them

onto of each other. Then taking several photos of the collage used Photoshop to change thecolours and contrasts.

The editing of this photo included changing the colour contrast and saturations, cropping out

    buildings and creating shadows.

I prefer the second picture that was edited and the colours are clear, the shadows make it look

like the sun on the building.

This has a warm effect on the picture.

This editing has been about colour saturation.

I started by increasing the reds and oranges to give a warm effect, but the colours were to

vibrant. By decreasing the brightness of the reds the picture was more in focus but still had the

    warm effect.

By cutting out the castle and old house then pasting them back In I was able to change these

two buildings to black and white but keep the front buildings in colour creating an old and new

effect . This works best out of the three picture as the whole picture is in focus (broad depth of

field) and the colours are more clear.

    3D Collages

A collage that I created, I used Photoshop to crop the image so that the framing was different, I then changed

the colour saturation on the picture to make the sky seem more realistic and make the building blend in toone another, .

The editing of this picture was simple yet effective, to refine my work I would continue to chose different

pictures and cut them out, with hand manipulation create different sets of buildings.

To refine my work I will continue to edit this photo to see what outcomes can be created and see my full

potential in the paper construction side.

All these collages have been inspired by the work of different artist that create paper constructions.

    3D Collages

This was another of my collages that I created, I used photoshop to crop the image so that the framing wasdifferent, then I cut one of the building out from the background and layered it on top so that the could

blended could be changed making it stand out, i then added another building on top that was multicoloured

to give the picture a different effect.

The editing of this picture was simple yet effective, to refine my work I would continue to chose different

pictures and cut them out, with hand manipulation create different sets of buildings.

This editing was my least favourite as I dont think the final outcome was brilliant and could be re done . All

these collages have been inspired by the work of different artist that create paper constructions.

This was my final collage that I created, I used lightroom to crop the image so that the framing was different,

then with the black and white added shadows onto the building to make it look like the sun is shinning on

    them.

The editing of this picture was simple yet effective, to refine my work I would continue to chose different

pictures and cut them out, with hand manipulation create different sets of buildings.

Overall out of all my collages and edits this was my favourite as little editing has been applied yet the picture

is still effective. All these collages have been inspired by the work of different artist that create paperconstructions.

    This photo has

    been cropped and

    colour contrast

    changed to black

    Plan

Traces will be my theme for this project. By researching David Walker and Alexey

Titarenkoand their photographs, it gave me an insight as to what kind of

    photographs traces are.

I will be going out and finding different traces such as shadows, objects that people

have dropped and different marks that have been left behind.

Using all the different camera techniques, shutter speed, aperture, IOS and different

colour schemes I hopefully will create a range of photos.

    Camera Settings

    Shutter Speed

Shutter speed is used to capture images that aremoving at an significant speed so photographers are

unable to capture the image with a slow shutter

    speed.

So the higher the shutter speed the slower the

shutter speed will be set on the camera, for example

a shutter speed of 8 will be slow and a speed of1/1000 will be fast.

    Aperture

Aperture is the depth of field of the

photo, a narrow depth of field has less in

the image that is in focus and the broad

depth of field has most of the photo in

focus. To tell what the aperture is the

lenses size of the shutters will be narrow

    or wide.

This was my first photos for traces, it is a shadow of two people.

The first photo has had the colours enhanced giving off depth.

The second photo has been changed to black and white and then using the light tool made the

white in the photo stand out. Finally keeping the picture in black and white I have added a red shadow around the edges,

making them more prominent. I like the middle photo the best as it has had little effects added to

    it but still looks effective.

To refine my work I will crop down the photo to create a different frame and view. I will also go

out and take further images of shadows and people reflections.

Again I have used a shadow photo, the first photo as been edited by increasing the green to

make the shadow stand out, the darkness around the shadow could be increased adding

another effect, this effect has been added to the photo to the right but the green has been

changed for a yellow adding yet another effect. If I incorporated the different effects that

both these photo have then the ending photo could be well presented.

Creating pictures of traces is part of the people and presence theme so I decided to try and take some reflections of

people in the sun, in mirrors and windows, out of all the mirror pictures this one my favourite one so I began to edit it in

Photoshop, to begin with I increased the colour saturation but this then created a picture that had to many vibrant colours

that it began to ruin the subject matter, so I then decided to try and layer on another picture, by choosing a picture of

someone's shoes the two pictures now contrast each other as they are both parts of a person being reflected. To try

something different I changed the picture to black and white then using lightroom added shadows around the edges.

Overall I would say the last photo (black and white) and the blended image are my two favourite edits as they were

    successful.

This picture and edits were inspired by the artist Wolfgang Tillmans. To refine my work I would look more into his work and see what other pictures I could create using his methods.

Although this picture doesnt fit in wit the sub theme reflections and shadows it does fit in with the theme traces, the piece

of paper has been left behind in the street after the rubbish has been collected, by taking a picture at ground level it makesthe viewer of the picture look straight at it, this adds a sense of importance as this is the only subject matter in the picture.

But with this picture its also brings questions, such like why is the paper there, how come it was missed, who threw it away

and what did it hold when in use.

To edit this photo I used lightroom using the black and white colour and adding shadows around the edge, and also keeping

the original colour but adding a circle of shadows so your eyes only focus on the one subject.

Overall I would say these four pictures were a success as I have created four different pictures that are unique in their own

    way.

To refine my work I would research an artist that creates pictures like this and then incorporate their work into mine.

    Filters

Whilst on the subject of traces of people, I created my own filters using sweet wrappers.

The pinks and purples add more effect onto the photographs more than the blues and greens.

They also add bubbled effects onto the photos

To edit this photo I used both light room and Photoshop. In light room I changed thecolour to black and white and increased the shadow darkness around the edges, I then

copied this image into Photoshop and blended the shadows in to create a ghostly effect

on the doll, although this doesnt fit into the theme currently of shadows and reflections

it does relate to the beginning theme of traces of people. To refine my work further I will

continue on the theme of traces and within that take pictures of shadows and

    reflections.

Carrying on with the traces subject, taking photographs of peoples shadows and reflections.

I have used Photoshop to edit this picture, by removing the colour and changing it to black

and white it creates a different effect on both the photos. As colour creates different moods to

    black and white.

I have been influenced by the colour scheme work of Wolfgang Tillmans and pictures of

people from the work of Alexey Titarenko.

To refine my work I will continue taking photographs of shadows and reflections but each time

improving the techniques and camera shots used.

Cropping the background from this picture added a different frame and view onto the

picture, In light room I have changed the colour of the back ground to black to make

the purple and the reflection of the persons hand stand out. Again I have been

influence by Dan Mountford from his work on shadows and reflections. There has

been little editing on this picture as too much would ruin the colours and framing. To

refine my work further I will take photographs off different and unique reflections

and proceed to edit them if needed.

Using Photoshop I have layered two pictures on top of each other and blended them together atransparent effect on the top photo . I haven't changed the colour saturation as the filter does this

    already.

By just changing how the pictures are layered on top of each other this changes the colour and clarity. I

have been influenced by the work of Dan Mountford

For this photos I think my editing has improved as I have done little to change the effects by still created

four different images. The first image is my favourite of the four as it is mysterious and different.

To refine my work I will use different coloured filters to get several outcomes for my photographs .

Carrying on with the filter edits I began to change the shutter speed on the camera to try and

get different effect, I managed to create a long exposure of a person walking across the room, by

using an orange filter this also gave an added effect onto the pictures.

Using lightroom I then began to change the picture to black and white and brighten the contrast

    between the black and white.

The end picture didnt turn out as well as the other two as too much light was being put into the

picture so the movement is being lost, overall I would chose either the original picture or the

first edited one as they were successful and link into the theme of traces.

The artist Alexey Titarenko was my inspiration for this picture as he creates images of peoples

movement over a certain length of time using long exposure.

If I was to refine my work I would continue to try different filter on the camera and I would also

begin to use the long and short exposure with a change of aperture.

To start with I have cropped the layer background of the water drops so that it

has a different framing around the edges and removes the black, then using

Photoshop I cropped the image of the girl, then blended the two layers

together. I then repeated this for the two other photographs to have this

effect. This picture was inspired by the photographer Ernst Hass and his work with

    reflections.

To refine my work I will continue to take different photographs of traces and

work with them to create the best outcome.

The reason for these two new photo shoots as to begin a theme within my traces of people

and after looking at the work of Dan Mounford and how he created two different images

within one picture caught my eye so decided to give it a go.

After creating several different photo-shoots for traces of people, I decided to go along the line

of exposure, I have done this photo shoot that includes different exposures of peoples faces,

    hands and feet.

    Exposure

    Exposure

This was my second photo shoot I created on exposure, the pictures are of a better quality and

have more to do with the traces of people and presence. Some of the photos have a low

aperture so too much light has been let in ruining the picture. Other the camera wasnt in

focus so they were too blurred. To refine my work I will carry on taking photos of exposure.

    Exposure

Here are some of my photos from my second photo shoot using long

and short exposure, this was done by changing the shutter speed to

slow (3.2 etc) and changing the aperture to a deep depth of field that

didnt allow too much light into the photo. The was my second try at

these photographs they have a better quality. They are still within the

    theme of traces.

To refine my work I will continue taking photographs similar to these

one and edit them using light room and/or photo shop.

EvaluationFor this project my photos that I have produced improve as the project went on this was because I had a better

understanding of what each topic needed to achieve a high quality finish

understanding of what each topic needed to achieve a high quality finish.

The picture I have taken in one way have been inspired by an artist that I have research before my photo shoots, not all the

research I made was included in my work as some of the photos didnt link into the themes I was producing. But some of

the artists research that I have used includes the work of David Walker and Alexey Titarenko, Wolfgang Tillmans, Wright

Morris, Bruce Gilden, David Gibson and more.

The Decay and People/Presence sections of the topics are my stranger points as I was able to incorporate different shutterspeeds, aperture and the work of different artist, I can see how every time I produced a photo-shoot the quality of the

pictures increased. Artists such as Dan Mountford inspired my work in the people and presences topic, as I started using

long exposure to create the movements of people within a picture, to being with this pictures didnt turn out well but as I

learnt how the shutter speed and aperture affect the type of picture that is produced. This was an outcome of me refining

my work and taking on board what different photographs have done.

The editing side of each pictures slowly improved too as my understanding of lightroom and photoshop became wider. By

editing my images I was able to improve the quality of work that I was producing. I prefer to use Photoshop as the differenttechniques within the programme are useful and easy to use. Although Photoshop, there is a chance to add shadowing and

colour balance the images I produced with Photoshop came out better.

Within the decay topic the photos that were best produced were the hand manipulations ones that were then further

edited as I was able then add more effects onto the pictures and create depth. As this was the first topic my photos I had

taken werent of a good quality so to refine this I looked more into different artists, this then gave me more inspiration to

what my photos should include and how they should be taken.

The architecture topic was my weakest point as the images and edits produced werent very strong, to improve this I would

re do some of my photo shoots and chose different filter to include on them, this would produce better pictures. I wouldalso look into more artists and find out better research that I could then incorporate into my work. The collages produced

we ok but I would of preferred to have created more, so I would have more images to work with and create a better

    understanding of paper creations.

People and Presence was probably my strongest topic, as by now I was able to use my camera to its full potential, (aperture

and shutter speed) I understood what was needed in my photo-shoot for when editing the pictures and how linking my

work to new and old artists could achieve a better outcome.

Overall this unit was a success for a beginning project as I now understand what needs to be included within the projects tofinish the topic sufficiently without missing out any aspects.
