Welcome to SOS Children`s Villages Uganda

Where are we on the map?

The first SOS children`s Village project in Uganda Started in1991 in Kakiri

after which, Gulu Entebbe and Fort Portal followed.

These projects include SOS Children’s Villages, Community development programmes (FSP), Education programmes, Health and Care (FBC) programmes.

Currently SOS Children`s Villages Uganda runs projects for 4,900 beneficiaries:

4300 in Family Strengthening

Family Based Care Programme at SOS Children`s Village Facilities

In each SOS Children Village we give a permanent home in a family

environment to vulnerable children.

Each child is looked after by an SOS mother, and grows up in an SOS family

with 10 boys and girls in a natural setting.

The care given is holistic as all the children’s needs including food, clothing, education, medical services and others

are met.

In Uganda, over last two decades the organization has grown to realize

proficient child-centred programmes in Kakiri, Entebbe, Gulu and Fort Portal

Community Development Programme (FSP)

A Community Development Programme known as the Family Strengthening Programme started in 2006 in Kakiri and progressively moved to Gulu, Entebbe and eventually Fort Portal.

The aim is to empower vulnerable families to enable them protect and care for their children-

Through income generating activities like crafts, agriculture and micro entrepreneurship.

SOS Educational Institutions in Uganda:

• Kindergartens - 4 (Kakiri, Entebbe, Gulu and Fort Portal)

• Primary - 2 (Kakiri and Gulu)

• Secondary - 1 (Kakiri)

Health

SOS Children’s Village in Uganda operates 4 Herman Gmeiner Medical Centres.

Thousands of children and adults in the surrounding communities of Kakiri, Gulu, Entebbe and Fort Portal have benefited from this service.

Services Offered:

• General Medical Care

• Reproductive Health Clinic

• Antenatal Clinic

• Laboratory Services

• Outreach Programme/community Services

• STI/HIV AIDS clinic with VCT services

• Average no of patients a day is 64

Achievements

Numbers of beneficiaries has increased from 2,500

beneficiaries in 2010 to 4,900 beneficiaries in 2012.

SOS Uganda runs medical centres that serve over 20,000 members of the

community yearly

Community Based Organisations (CBO) have

been formed to implement SOS Programmes. Continuous

nurturing these CBOs is still going on.

SOS HG Secondary School is ranked 6th out of 300 top

promising schools in Uganda.
