“Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful! May the fire of our devotion light their way.

May the footprints that we leave lead them to believe, And the lives we live inspire them to obey.

Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful.” Written by Jon Mohr

What are we teaching our children as parents, teachers, and administrators? The loudest message we can send is not spo-ken in words. It is in our actions. Are we teaching them to criticize or encourage? Fear or have trust? Betray our Chris-tian convictions or stand strong? Persevere through challenges or look for an easy way out? Recently, we hosted local author, Amy Carney, as she spoke to parents on how to Parent on Purpose. (By the way, I strongly recommend her book, and if you have the opportunity, go hear her speak! She is engaging and very funny!) Amy encouraged us to “be the example we want our kids to be”, and to demon-strate how to really love God and others. She also urged us to prepare our children for the path ahead of them instead of focusing on preparing the path! Life can be hard and messy. I occasionally get calls asking me to “put something in the Jour-ney” to remind parents to follow the parking lot rules, not be rude, watch their language, etc. While these are valid con-cerns and good recommendations, I can almost guarantee they would be ineffective because they would not be heeded by those who most need to hear them. Rather, I want to encour-age you to model to your children the correct way to stand up for what’s right when you encounter some of these issues. We are constantly encouraging our kids to be bold followers of Jesus and to help protect the type of environment on campus which honors and pleases Jesus Christ. If you are offended by someone’s behavior, please prayerfully consider speaking di-rectly to the person. It may be uncomfortable, but done in the right spirit, it is the right thing to do. Prepare them for the path ahead! It is the sincere prayer of my heart that each of us would hear our Lord someday say, “Well done, my good and faithful serv-ant.” Now is not the time to back off—it’s more important than ever to remember we are His masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus for good works.”

Elementary students in Grades 1-5 meet in the gym on Tuesdays, 8:20-9:10 AM. Parents are welcome to attend! The following schedule indicates who will be leading the chapel.

Congratulations to Parker Daniels, Derek Buman, Chloe Loop, and Olivia Waldrop. They are the most recent students to read over 1,000,000 words this year. Uriah Simonson has read over 2,000,000 words, and Alyssa Van Patten has read over 4,000,000 words! Parker Daniels chose Slam Dunk by Mike Lupica. Derek Buman chose I Survived the Battle of D-Day 1944 by Lauren Tarshus. Chloe Loop chose The Diamond of Darthold, which is a part of the City of Ember se-ries by Jeanne DuPrau. Olivia Waldrop chose the 8th book in the Emily Windsnap series, which is Emily Windsnap and the Pirate Prince by Liz Kessler. Uriah Simonson chose Island of Shipwrecks, which is a part of The Unwanteds series. Alyssa Van Patten chose The Secret of the Crystal Fairies. This is a new Thea Stilton book. Thanks to Mrs. Moy for do-nating the books in honor of these students’ great accomplishments. Keep up the great reading! Reading 1,000,000 words or more is not the only way to donate a celebration book. If you have a book you would like to donate to the library in honor of a special occasion or accomplishment, please stop by the library or email Gayle Grant at [email protected].

The AR party will be Friday, May 17th. Any 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade student who meets his/her AR goal all four quar-ters will be invited to go! Qualifying students will need to meet their fourth quarter AR goals by Monday, May 13th, to allow time to make last minute arrangements for the party and for student recognition at the awards ceremony. Once again, we have some fun activities planned on the baseball field. You do not want to miss it! Parents! If you are willing to volunteer for the AR party, please notify Gayle Grant at [email protected]. We are looking for a few parents to help man some of the slides to help make sure the students are safe.

DADS ON DUTY

Last August at Back to School Night, sign-up sheets were available for dads to sign up to help on the play-grounds during elementary lunch recess. We had a few dads sign up, but we would love to have more dads vol-unteer to mentor and play games with students during the lunch recess. If you didn’t have the opportunity to sign up last fall and would still like to do so, please con-tact Joyce Leeper at [email protected] and let her know what days you are available to help. She will plug you into the schedule on days on which no other dads will be helping. Thanks in advance for your willingness to help!

On March 1, five students participated in the SFE “Roving Chef” program. This special event gets students involved with nutritious recipe building in order to create excitement about food and nutrition. The students who participated were: second graders Sahmone Wadsworth and Emily Thiessen; third grader Emily Ball; and fourth graders Wesley Coberly and Kaylee Hogue. During this fun hands-on cooking class, the students took a tour of the “back of the house” in the cafeteria where they were taught how to properly wash and sanitize their hands, understand proper food temperatures, and the nutritional benefits of eating healthy foods.

Under the guidance of our chef, Isabeth Ramirez, the students prepared individual pizzas. They were then able enjoy their culinary creations with their fellow “chefs” and share a pizza with Mrs. Moy! The students definitely enjoyed their Roving Chef experience!

TerraNova, Third Edition MARK YOUR CALENDARS! TerraNova Tests will be administered to students in Grades 1-5 on April 8-12. Make-up tests for students who were ill during testing will be April 15-18. We want our students to do their very best. Please make sure your child gets a good night’s rest each night. Also, it is very important that students arrive on time! Testing will begin right after teachers take attendance and lunch count. If your child arrives after testing has begun, he/she will sit in the office until the class finishes that test. Each child also needs to bring two #2 sharpened pencils to school. No homework will be given during the week of testing. Please send a nutritious snack each day for your child to eat during break time. Fruit is always a good choice. Studies show a healthy breakfast can also give stu-dents an advantage in testing. “Christian School Educator” states: “We need to remember that an achievement test is a snapshot of achievement in any given year. It has been said that an achievement test is a mile wide and an inch deep. Although many of the items effectively test critical thinking skills, we are also measuring a sampling of the en-tire range of material that is taught in a school year.” Situations in and outside the school setting can affect the way a student performs on a test. Whether it is fatigue, family issues, or the world crises, students are influenced by numerous factors. Please send your students to school in a happy frame of mind, and we will do all we can to provide the right environment for them to feel successful. Let’s try to limit classroom interruptions (dental appointments, forgotten lunches, etc.) We’re looking forward to a great couple of weeks. We anticipate being able to mail results to you in June.

2018-19 We Are God’s Masterpiece

“We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10

Scottsdale Christian Academy Mission Statement The mission of Scottsdale Christian Academy is to maximize the God-given potential of each student, preparing them to live lives of distinction, by impacting the world for Jesus Christ.

Scottsdale Christian Academy Christian Core Values

Core Values guide both the internal and external conduct of the school. They are the non-negotiable qualities that differentiate the institution as they identify, inspire, galvanize, and deter-mine the school’s highest priorities. CHRISTIAN MATURITY Preparing our students with Christ-centered experiences that by God’s grace lead to spiritual transformation, which enable them to develop a maturing relationship with Jesus Christ. EXCELLENCE Providing a Biblically based accredited curriculum that prepares the student for the challenges of higher education and life-long learning. We seek to serve the developmental needs of the whole student, endeavoring to maximize the student’s God-given potential, which stimulates and culti-vates critical thinking and the pursuit of creative expression, in the academics, arts, and athletics. COMMUNITY Cultivating a community of believers, founded on the basis of shared commitment, common un-ion, fellowship and Christ’s love. We value the importance of relationships, as modeled by Christ and his love for others. As we partner together to unify our body of students, parents, faculty and staff, we extend Christ’s love and grace to each other, celebrate each member’s unique God-given abilities, and glorify Jesus Christ. SERVICE Loving our neighbor as ourselves is reflected in an academic community that models and encour-ages Christ-like character, conduct, accountability, and service to our community and the world. We seek to conduct ourselves with deep care and compassion for all, reflecting faith in action, by being doers of God’s word.

SCA Elementary HONORS PROGRAM

“No man ever really finds out what he believes in until he begins to instruct his children. Our children are like mirrors—they reflect our attitudes in life.”

God’s Little Devotional Book

I am so thankful to work with the children in my Honor classes. They teach me daily! They judge me not only by my words, but by my actions, as well…major pressure, for sure! Students recently worked on a building project in class. Using five pieces of newspaper and one yard of tape, they attempted to make the tallest paper tower. We will be discussing the major problems and successes with this activity, and then they will be given a second chance to repeat the task. April will find us brushing up on our geography terms, getting serious about our Fun Trivia facts, learning our last twenty-five words for the last WordMasters challenge, and studying about some famous Americans. We have become experts with our “mono” words, and now we will try our hand at learning some “phobia” words. It is unbelievable to me that we are almost in the month of April. “Time is more valuable than money because time is irreplaceable.” God’s Little Devotional Book Have a wonderful Spring Break! God Bless!

Page 17: SOTTSDALE HRISTIAN AADEMY PROLAIMING THE WORD …

Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten

April is finally here and so is spring. We are eager for our preschool and pre-kindergarten classes to ex-plore the exciting things happening this month. At the beginning of the month, we will discover how butterflies grow; students will get to create their own butterflies and will have many opportunities to learn about butterflies and insects during our classroom centers.

With a new month comes new letters on which we will get to focus! Students will continue to grow in letter recognition, letter formation and phonemic awareness.

In Math, we will be reviewing number recognition and number formation 1-10. Students will explore measurement, as well as create and identify patterns. There are fun and foundational activities planned to help your kiddos strive and suc-ceed in number recognition, sequencing and counting to twenty.

We love April as our classes will engage in Bible stories about Jesus walking into Jerusalem and learn the real meaning of why we celebrate Easter. We cannot wait to see what the month of April brings for us!

Kindergarten Kindergarteners are blooming this time of year! We witness their growth academically, physically, spiritually, and socially.

Bible lessons focus on the Easter Story and Bible truth: “God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) We learn that our sins are washed away by the blood of the Jesus, and we are reconciled to God. The Bi-ble story of Lazarus’ resurrection is another illustration of how Jesus conquered death. Finally, the story of Zacchaeus demonstrates Jesus’ love for sinners.

Social Studies lessons revolve around stories of the past and how history shapes our lives. Students have the opportunity to analyze artifacts. They understand “Character Counts” as they learn about historical heroes. Students also explore family trees.

Science is all about caring for planet earth. We conserve our resources and reduce consumption. We explore water flow and make robots out of recyclables.

Our kindergarteners have been working hard to become great spellers. They learn ten new spelling words each week and review 55 phonograms (letter sounds). Eric Carle is the focus of our author study. His illustrations bring out the artists in all of us.

Puppy Dog addition and subtraction drills continue. Some students are now in the one-minute club (able to accurately complete 12 problems in one minute). Their minds are able to grasp 3D geometric figures (sphere, cylinder, cube, cone) recognize symmetry, and divide shapes into equal halves, thirds and fourths.

We love your kiddos and are pushing them to become more independent as first grade is on the horizon.

Well done kinders!!

Page 18: SOTTSDALE HRISTIAN AADEMY PROLAIMING THE WORD …

First Grade

April Showers brings lovely flowers and butterflies to gather nectar and beautify our world. First graders are learning about God’s plan and purpose for butterflies. We will have the pleasure of observing our own caterpillars develop into adult Painted Lady Butterflies. We will take a trip to Butterfly Wonderland to view the large variety of butterflies and so much more as we experience God’s beautiful world. In Bible, we will learn all about how Jesus showed His love for us by dying on the cross and resurrecting three days lat-er.

We will have a week of TerraNova testing, and we know that we are ready for second grade! Our reading and writing efforts will be in the genre of fairy tales and make believe stories. We will have the pleasure of creating stories to present to our families.

In Math we will learn how to measure with a variety of tools using standard and non-standard units of measurement. We will enlarge our vocabulary with many new measurement terms. We continue to progress in Mad Dog Math. We continue to learn how to classify sentences and write interesting complete sentences. We can recognize sentence fragments, and we can correct a fragment to make a complete sentence. And, we can identify a topic, paragraph, and supporting sentences. we will identify possessive pronouns, contractions, and irregular verbs. We are so smart!

Second Grade

In Science, second graders just wrapped up a unit on dinosaurs. The children were fascinated to learn about God's unique creation of dinosaurs. They studied the various sizes of dinosaurs, the ways in which dinosaurs defended them-selves, and the types of food dinosaurs ate. The students also learned about God's wonderful gift of light. Learning about how we see light and how light travels helped students investigate ways in which light is reflected or absorbed. Students were able to differentiate among materials that are transparent, translucent, or opaque. The unit ended with students being able to iden-tify the colors of the visible spectrum. The children created color wheels and discovered that when the color wheels were spun, the colors of the visible spectrum blended together into white light.

In Math, the students have gained a greater understanding of various standard units of measurement. They learned how to estimate the height and length of objects and choose appropriate tools, units, and methods in which to meas-ure those objects.

In Language, the children are currently learning the various parts of a friendly letter and will practice writing friendly letters. They will also begin creating a class book that will be published. After the class book is complete, students will have an opportunity to go through the entire writing process to publish individual young author stories. It is fun watch-ing their imaginations bloom!

We just wrapped up our unit on government in Social Studies. The students will begin learning about using the re-sources God has given us on earth while studying about people in the marketplace. Students will be educated on how our banking system works and how both goods and services are provided. Learning to value the people who work in our community, and how we can all be contributing members of our community, is the primary focus of these units.

Page 19: SOTTSDALE HRISTIAN AADEMY PROLAIMING THE WORD …

Third Grade

Third grade will be trekking through the African Savanah, the Arctic, and diving deep into the coral reef as we begin learning about our class habitats! We will explore food chains and webs, learn about predators and prey, and the characteristics of the different ecosystems God created. Our studies will come to life when we spend the night at the Phoenix Zoo on April 11th! We will find out what really happens at night when the zoo lights are turned down and the animals wake up. There may be some creatures invading our classrooms also. Keep an eye out as they transform into a coral reef, tundra, and Savanah habitats!

Our journey will continue in reading as we explore animals and their habitats. We will read narrative nonfiction and realistic fiction pieces. After we finish reading stories about the habi-tats, we will read “Pilgrim’s Progress”, a Christian allegory written by John Bunyan. This story is all about a man named “Christian” and his spiritual journey. It will be so exciting to see what God teaches us through this piece of literature!

True stories from God’s Word will help us discover God’s plan for His people through creation and the fall. We will also explore the covenant that God made with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Finally, we will examine the sequence of events that led to Samuel being called by God and the loss of the Ark of the Covenant.

Grammar is becoming “complex”! Third graders will be learning and writing complex sentenc-es and understanding the difference between an independent clause, dependent clause, and how to add subordinate conjunctions. Can you identify the difference between a complex, compound, fragmented, and a simple sentence? Third graders will be able to!

In Math we are getting ready for fourth grade as we continue to understand and develop our math skills with our division facts and apply our knowledge to find perimeter of shapes. You may even be able to find Dash robots in the classrooms measuring and finding the perimeter of shapes. Can you imagine third graders doing geometry? It is our desire in third grade that you have a wonderful Easter and remember the promise

God made to mankind that His son would die and rise again on the third day. What an amaz-

ing gift our Lord gave us! “He has risen, He has risen indeed!” Happy Easter from the third

grade!

Fourth Grade

On the road again! As part of our Arizona curriculum, fourth graders will be traveling to south-ern Arizona in April! They will visit Kartchner Caverns State Park and the Sonoran Desert Muse-um. During their first stop, students will be able to explore the underground caverns like Gary Tenen and Randy Tuft, who discovered the caves in 1974. They won’t have to crawl through dark, tiny tunnels with only a flashlight, but it will be spectacular to say the least. Students will be able to see one of the world’s longest soda straw stalactites. This is one of many fascinating features on the Rotunda-Throne Room. The bell canopy, also found in the Throne Room, is formed by water flowing over a bump on the wall, then dripping to create a beautiful for-mation. During the next stop, students will learn about some of the plants and animals of the desert habitat. Did you know that the Sonoran Desert Museum is actually a 98-acre zoo, aquar-ium, botanical garden, art gallery, and natural history museum all rolled into one? With 242 animal species, this is a great opportunity to see desert animals in their natural habitat. The museum also hosts one of the world’s most comprehensive regional mineral collections. Also, during April, students will be choosing a location in Arizona that offers value to tourism in our state. They will research it and create a 3-D model. We will celebrate our great state with this culminating project.

Fifth Grade

In Bible, we continue to travel through the life of Jesus. Jesus’ call to discipleship was not a call to live for self as a new introspective creation. Rather it was a call to service and to community within the body of Christ, into which each born-again person is integrated. This is the community of disciples that Jesus called to help build His kingdom. As salt and light to a dying world, Jesus’ disciples were then (as we are today) commis-sioned to preach the gospel of the new kingdom throughout the world, making disciples and baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. As we move through United States history, students are seeing the price paid for our freedom and the sacri-fices people have made for our country, patriotic themes woven throughout the units, and how God’s hand is shown throughout our country’s history. This month, we will also wrap up our study of the Revolutionary War, the Branches of Government, and U.S. Patriotic Music. We have talked about many miracles from this time period that always don’t make it into our textbooks, but they show God’s Sovereignty.

In Science class, students continue to learn about the Scientific Method by experimenting during class. Recently the students experimented on, “How does the weight of a paper airplane affect the distance it will fly?” Stu-dents did some brief research on airplanes, weight distribution, and aero-dynamics, then synthesized their hypothesis based on the research. We discussed details about variables in our experiment, then proceeded with experimenting. After the allotted time, students contributed their data on airplane distances. Students were then asked to write a final report. We

will continue enhancing the Scientific Method in class with another experiment about which household liquid will clean a penny the best. The purpose is to help students understand each step of the Scientific Method so that as they reach that step in their science fair process, they are crystal clear on how to accomplish it.

Physical Education Hello Friends, March was the pinnacle month in PE class where we spent our time preparing for and par-ticipating in the annual Elementary Olympics. Your kiddos got a chance to experience and practice several different track and field events and then competed against their class-mates in the events that each one chose. Each student had the opportunity to select three events out of the following: 400 meter dash, 50 yard dash, 50 yard hurdles, obstacle course, long jump and softball throw. Grades 4 and 5 also had the options of the mile run and the 4X100 meter relay. Both days of competition went smoothly, and I was impressed by the attitudes and effort of each of your kids. We had a blast! I would like to thank Chuck Watkins and the High School Student Government who organized and provided students to score the Olympic events. We could not do this without them. Thank you for your support of your kiddos and of SCA. God is always good!! Coach Z

Hands on Technology

Each SCA teacher has a “6 Trait Writing” binder that contains student writing assignments from Kindergarten through 5th grade. Students will take a sampling of these writing assign-ments to build their websites. Since websites are digital, students can also add PowerPoints, Buncees, etc. to their websites.

Student Digital e-Portfolios: After Spring Break, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will be using Weebly for Education to build their own websites. These student websites will also serve as digital e-portfolios, showcasing student learning and writing projects.

Page 25: SOTTSDALE HRISTIAN AADEMY PROLAIMING THE WORD …

Please rest assured that Weebly for Education offers a safe learning environment. Students websites will not be made public. Privacy will be set to classroom-only viewing. Students will build new websites using Weebly’s step-by-step instructions that are intuitive and well-organized. Students will practice uploading an image and then rotate, crop, or fade its opacity. They can choose from numerous template designs and add headers and other written content. Content ele-ments are the building blocks of the website, and Weebly’s drag-and-drop functionality lets students select themes, place photos, add text and other pages, and publish their site.

Keyboarding: In today's computer-oriented world, typing is an es-sential skill. By learning correct typing techniques, all SCA students will develop this valuable skill that they will use throughout their lives and careers. Students in the first, second and third grades will be using Disney: Mickey’s Typing Adventure.

Disney: Mickey’s Typing Adventure has been designed specifically for stu-dents to learn the correct way to touch type in an easy and fun environ-ment. In Disney: Mickey’s Typing Ad-venture, students learn essential typ-ing skills while taking an exciting ad-venture around Typelandia.

Page 26: SOTTSDALE HRISTIAN AADEMY PROLAIMING THE WORD …

Students in the fourth and fifth grades will be us-ing Typing Instructor Platinum, which uses the latest technology to provide an online education-al, entertaining, and motivating experience for beginners, intermediate, and advanced typists.

Built-in typing courses help the student focus on particular skills, designed to ensure more proficient typing. Each course is comprised of a series of typing activities, including lessons, challenges, games and drills.

Page 27: SOTTSDALE HRISTIAN AADEMY PROLAIMING THE WORD …

Saved Results with Real-Time Feedback All lessons have voiceover instructions, an onscreen keyboard, and guide hands to show typists proper fin-ger-to-key placement. They see real-time feedback and saved results on all typing activities.

20+ Typing Plans Creative learning themes, challenging typing games, motivating features, and over 20 educational typing plans engage and motivate typists to learn. All Typing Plans are easy to follow in perfect sequence, with les-sons, practice exercises, tests, and games.

Play Multi-Level Typing Games in the Arcade! Students will enjoy practicing their typing skills by playing Ziggy, Treasure Quest, and more! Typing games are de-signed to improve typing accuracy, speed, rhythm, and build finger-to-key memory. Students can print a Certificate of Accomplishment when they complete a Typing Plan.

LIBRARY

Every week SCA students learn a new “Word of the Week” during their library class. We read the word, define the word and use it in sentences. Ask your student about these words, and they will “WOW” you with their growing vocabulary!

The words of the week for March: Kindergarten: sneaky, St. Patrick’s Day, lost Grades 1-5: vigilant, mediocre, election

Pre-Kindergarten: The Pre-K students have been learning about seeds, plants, and flowers. To go along with this unit, the students listened to From Seed to Plant, Plants Can’t Sit Still, and The Tiny Seed. The students made some beautiful flower creations to go along with the stories. They also lis-tened to The Grouchy Ladybug and made some cute little ladybugs that were either grouchy or hap-py. Kindergarten: The kindergarten students have been learning about the farm. They listened to Hattie and the Fox, and then they retold the story by putting on a play. They listened to Who Took the Farmer’s Hat. The students then took a hat shape and made it into something other than a hat. Some of the students used ideas from the story, and some came up with new creations. To help celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, the students listened to an old Irish tale called Jamie O’Rourke and the Big Potato. First Grade: The first graders have been learning about insects. They listened to Insect Lives and The Very Impatient Caterpillar. In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, the students enjoyed listening to The Luckiest Leprechaun. The first graders have been busy taking AR tests. They have been choosing AR books from a designated section of the library and are starting to choose books in their range from the shelf! They are encouraged to take at least one test per week. This will help prepare them for AR in second grade. Second Grade: The second graders have been learning about dinosaurs. They listened to the nonfic-tion book Digging for Dinosaurs and compared it to the silly fiction story Goldilocks and the Three Di-nosaurs. The students have been learning about the difference between fiction and nonfiction this year. To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, the students enjoyed That’s What Leprechauns Do. Third Grade: The students listened to the Irish tale, Tim O’Toole and the Wee Folk. The third graders have been learning how to use the library card catalog to look up and recommend books to friends. Fourth Grade: The fourth graders enjoyed the story Your Life as a Pioneer on the Oregon Trail. The students were introduced to the characteristics of tall tales. They learned about American Tall Tales and then listened to an Irish Tall Tale, Fin M’Coul. They have been exploring folk tales. The students listened to the trickster tale, Anansi and the Moss Covered Rock. Fifth Grade: The fifth-grade students have been learning about inventions and inventors. They learned all about Ben Franklin and his many inventions in the story Now and Ben. The students were assigned two inventions to research and then share what they learned with a classmate.

Mr. Budd’s Elementary Music Classes

Kindergarten The kids have been singing their little hearts out. Soon we’ll be playing more instruments to get ready for 1st grade! By the way, these kids can really sing!

1st Grade We are continuing to play bells but now we’re using them for ostinatos and recognizing high and low pitches. Ask your kiddo what an ostinato is.

2nd Grade Second Grade started using Do’s Re’s Mi’s with the bells. Notation is next!. This is a brain builder. It’s the beginnings of reading music. Yeah!

3rd Grade Now we’re going to study more elements and foundations of music reading and playing. “Theory” is the boring word. We’ll also be studying instruments and composers. Oh, and we’re back to singing a lot more.

4th/5th Grade Choir Save the Date! Spring Concert, May 9th, 6:00PM, SCA Gymnasium We are excited to begin working on material for the Spring Show and being able to share the concert with the 4th and 5th

grade bands. The kids have a variety of music to perform including songs by Lauren Daigle (surprise, surprise) as well as

other popular tunes.

Mr. Moss’ 4th and 5th Grade Band Classes

4th & 5th GRADE BAND PARENTS:

Reminder that our Spring Concert is scheduled for Thursday, May 9, at 6:00 PM in the SCA Gym. This is the end-of-year presentation, and your band student will need to have attire appropriate for making a public address. Dress for the sea-son, but also relative to what is general concert attire. White on top and black on bottom always works; however, it is also ok to wear that special Easter Sunday dress, shirt, slacks, or shoes.

We need to wrap up the year with a cookie reception for the kids. Please be on the lookout for a sign-up list.

Several band students have lost their methods books. Please do a personal inspection and ask to see your child’s band book. If he/she can’t produce it, it is lost, and you will need to get another one during Spring Break.

Spring Break is also a great time to get extra reeds, sticks, ligature, mallets, oil, slide grease, polish cloth, etc. before we resume classes on April 1st. 5th Grade Band Parents: We are excited to welcome your current 5th grader into Middle School Band for the 2019-2020 school year. Band is growing fast and the excitement is all over campus. In order for us to ensure we have every band student placed appro-priately within the ensemble, we need to be certain your student has signed up for 6th grade band. Please contact aca-demic advisors Lacey Fricker (extension 1161) and Kary Sterkowitz (extension 1150) in the Middle School/High School Office. Gary Moss
