Soul Stories: Rediscovering Our Wholeness A Courage & Renewal ® Program Mercy Center – Burlingame, CA Saturday, October 22, 2016 In our hectic, electronically connected lives, we can easily forget to slow down and press the pause button in order to reconnect with ourselves. When have you asked yourself what it would take to change the pace of your life? Are you looking for ways to rediscover those things that feed and nourish your spirit? Through the use of large and small group work, individual solitude and reflection, we will explore our own soul stories that reconnect us to our authentic selves. This daylong retreat draws on principles and practices of a Circle of Trust® approach developed by Parker J. Palmer and the Center for Courage & Renewal. This retreat is for you if you are curious about: Exploring some time to slow down and focus without distraction in order to listen to your own inner voice; Engaging with like-minded peers in a safe space for honest dialogue, careful listening and deep connection; Enjoying an opportunity to reconnect, reclaim and recalibrate the pace and flow of your own life; Experimenting with self-reflective practices to take with you into your own life or work. If we are willing to embrace the challenge of becoming whole… we cannot embrace that challenge all alone, at least, not for long: we need trustworthy relationships to sustain us, tenacious communities of support, if we are to sustain the journey toward an undivided life. – Parker J. Soul Stories: Rediscovering Our Wholeness A Courage & Renewal® Program

Mercy Center – Burlingame, CA Saturday, October 22, 2016

In our hectic, electronically connected lives, we can easily forget to slow down and press the pause button in order to reconnect with ourselves. This retreat is for you if you are curious about:

• Exploring some time to slow down and focus without distraction in order to listen to your own inner voice;

• Engaging with like-minded peers in a safe space for honest dialogue, careful listening and deep connection;

• Enjoying an opportunity to reconnect, reclaim and recalibrate the pace and flow of your own life;

• Experimenting with self-reflective practices to take with you into your own life or work.

If we are willing to embrace the challenge of becoming whole… we cannot embrace that challenge all alone, at least, not for long: we need trustworthy relationships to sustain us, tenacious communities of support, if we are to sustain the journey toward an undivided life.

– Parker J. Palmer

Meet Your Facilitators:

Jana Rickerson, LCSW is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 25 years of leadership experience in health care and human services. She has always loved working with and on behalf of children and families, and her first career was as an elementary school teacher. Jana is also a trained mediator, and she leads women’s wellness groups in the San Francisco Bay area. She considers herself a life long student who enjoys reading spy novels, white water rafting, cooking classes and laughing loudly with family and friends.

Gloria Gostnell, Ed.D. lives in a small town on the Oregon Coast. Her life as an educator and teacher of meditation have been shaped by her African American heritage and by the question: What else is possible? This was the question she asked as a beginning elementary school teacher and continued to ask during her 40 years as an educator in K-12 and Higher Education settings, most recently at Lewis & Clark College. In working to co-create learning communities of care, respect and challenge in both traditional and non-traditional settings, she has found the same question to be equally compelling in

all other areas of her life. Her continuing work as a Facilitator with the Center for Courage & Renewal gives her the privilege and opportunity to explore the question with others at different stages in their personal and professional lives. What else is possible?
