What does a sound designer do?
• Design install and operate the sound.• Work extremely close with the director and choreographer as
the sound designer is also a creative role.• Auditory creator, some sound designers even compose.• Evoke emotion create and reflect the mood, and underscore
the action.• Source music and sound.• Edit the music to correct timing and pitch/tone.• Decide whether the sound is diegetic or non diegetic. • - Diegetic: Actual sound that can be heard by the actor. Eg.
Rain.• -Non Diegetic: Sound only heard by the audience. Eg. Dramatic
music.

Continued. • Control radio microphones, ambient microphones and
orchestra microphones.• -Work out location, how many are needed and where are they
needed backstage.• Take the script and analyse what's required and when to
create cues in the script. • It is also required that a sound designer researches accurately
so for example modern music is not featured in a medieval piece.
• They are required to complete the picture through sound.
