The Young Victoria Trailer

“Giving us background information such as where the action is set”

The Young Victoria trailer does not let us know where the action is set, however it lets us know that this is a true story as it refers to ascending the throne. Making everything that is said to be more real than believed.

“Informs us about the characters.”

At the beginning of the trailer it tells us that Victoria was young and naive, as she was so young to then realised she had to throw away her childhood to then become the new Queen. She is the most powerful character in the trailer and the movie, and this is shown through the music and the voice overs.

“Helps to build a sense of anticipation about the films release.”

The trailer for The Young Victoria doesn’t exactly help build up about the films release but it gets the audience thinking of how they got the film so close to the story line; it raises enigmas the whole way through.

“Reinforces the title of the film.”

There are a few parts of the trailer where it reinforces the title of the film for example: “I must’ve been 11 when I learnt that I was nearer the crown than I thought” “her Royal Highness Princess Victoria of Kent”.

“Sets the tone of the film.”

The tone of the film starts of slow as the audience can get to grips at what era and who this true story is about. But once they are about half way through the trailer, they pick up the speed, as this is when the problems amongst Young Victoria’s life then emerges.

“Summarises the story in around 5-8 lines. It does not give away the ending, but helps us anticipate what is to come.”

I believe that the trailer does summarise the storyline in just a little more than 5-8 lines and this is because of the narrative that is being used and the dialogue that follows by the characters does let the majority of the storyline out.

Pride & Prejudice (2005) Trailer

“Giving us background information such as where the action is set.”

The trailer for Pride & Prejudice does give us some information as to where the action is set, for example the clothing, the accents and the setting around them.

“Informs us about the characters.”

It does inform us about the characters as it shows that the male character is inferior and is not going to let things get to them, then the female character is strong willed and is determined to get what she wants, whether that be what she can’t stand but what she can’t resist.

“Reinforces the title of the film.”

Throughout this trailer, it does not reinforce the title of the film until very close to the end when the title appears on the screen and the voice over speaks.

“Sets the tone for the film.”

The tone of the film is at a fast pace, everything is happening fast, in regard to Elizabeth being in a rush to marry a rich man to keep her mother happy. Then to also get Mr Darcy to fall in love with her, despite her loathing him.

“Summarises the story in around 5-8 lines. It does not give away the ending, but helps us anticipate what is to come.”The trailer for Pride & Prejudice does summaries the film in a little less than 5-8 lines, they aren’t placed all together but if you place the main lines together, from the beginning, middle and end, they all piece together the storyline perfectly, missing out the parts where she loathed him until their moments together.
