Total amount raised on Jan.
25, 2012 for simply selling
soup. Granted, we had a
HUGE amount of support
from our outstanding volun-
teers who shopped for ingre-
dients and made batches of
soup, baked many different
kinds of cookies for dessert
and helped clean and set up
the tables for new diners.
The amount of work that
goes on ‘behind the scenes’
is amazing! For instance,
Judy Courtley, starts baking
bread in November, asking
neighbors and friends to
store loaves in their freezers
until the day of.
This year’s fundraiser was
dedicated to Dick LeTard, a
vital member of our Board of
Directors since 2005, who
died suddenly on December
29th. Members of our Board
also start meeting, planning,
shopping and coordinating
for this annual event in early
November . Before you
know it—tickets are being
sold and soup is being
served!
Once again this year we ex-
tend our heartfelt apprecia-
tion to each and every volun-
teer, no matter the deed —
we could not have done it
without you!
Special thanks to United
Community Bank in Tellico
Village and on Hwy 321 N.,
First National Bank on Hwy
321 N., and the Village Salon
in Tellico Village for their
support and help in selling
tickets.
See you January 2013!!

Upon retirement from NCR as an Electrical
Engineer in New Jersey, Dick and his wife, Mary,
moved to Loudon, Tennessee. He had been
involved with the Center since it opened in 2002.
Dick began volunteering his time taking on the
financial duties at the CAC, becoming a member of
our Board of Directors in 2005, fulfilling 3
positions over 6 years: 2nd V.P., President, and
most recently, Treasurer.
His presence and leadership will be sorely
missed—at the Center, our functions, fundraisers
and around Tellico Village.

Once Upon a Hilltop In October, the Sisters with Artistic Attitude, members pictured below, from the Village Quilters in Tellico Village, presented a quilt, “once
Upon A Hilltop” to Kids First CAC. The name of the quilt describes the Center sitting on top of the hill next to Wampler’s Farm.
The quilting group, 16 members working over a year on this project, was interested in putting a quilt on display by donating it to an
agency in Loudon County. The quilters chose the Center because of what Chris Evans-Longmire, E.D., saw in the stitching, “You see
kids that are starting to look hopeful, some with their arms outreached and they are looking like they are jumping up.” This amazing,
joyful gift hangs at the front entrance to the Center for all to see when they visit.

MEMORIAL and IN HONOR
donations are acknowledged on the day
they are received to persons you request.
The amount of the gift is confidential and
used only on the receipt to the donor. To
designate your next donation as an honor
gift or memorial, include a note with the
honoree’s name and mailing address; if
the gift is a memorial, include the contact
information of the family member to
receive a notification card. The Center
sends each honoree a card with a message:
“A contribution has been made to Kids
First Child Advocacy Center in your
honor by (donor).” For memorials, a
similar card is sent to family members
indicating a gift has been made in memory
of the deceased.
This year we decided to find a party activity to entertain the children inside. The
past 2 years we had the Loudon County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit demonstrate how the dogs
perform, which thrilled the kids , however, it was unbearably hot! So, on August 4th
we were fortunate enough to have Knoxville Photo Booth Company donate a booth
with dress up favors (hats, scarves, glasses). Needless to say, it was a HUGE hit!!
The kids had so much fun getting their pictures taken, some with siblings, parents and
some of the staff, on a 4X6 photo card to keep and show off to friends and family.
Tellico Village Volunteer Clowns joined us again this year to do some face painting.
It was a great time had by all—hopefully this Back to School Bash will be a fun
memory for the children. After pizza, cupcakes, cookies, ice cream sandwiches, and
the activities were complete, each child (36 total) left the party with a brand new
backpack loaded with school supplies to last them for the year.
We value the support from our local neighbors and businesses that help by
contributing generously to this annual event:

OUR HELPING HANDS…
Russ Hanson and Terry Boyes, members of Tellico Village Kiwanis,
stopped by the Center to present a check to Chris. Their support over the
years has been extremely beneficial to the children we serve. In November
we had a 15 year old boy in therapy whose father had lost his job and was
on chemotherapy for cancer. When Dad told his son Dr. Mona wanted
him to make out a ‘wish list’ the teen said, “I really don’t need anything,
use the money for another child”. The Dad told us his son taught himself
to play guitar and had always wanted a banjo. Thanks to the Kiwanis Foun-
dation of Tellico Village, and the time Farrell and Millie Bruner spent
shopping for the perfect banjo, this young man was shocked to see a banjo
in his living room Christmas morning (they couldn’t afford a tree). He
now gets a banjo lesson from a volunteer before his therapy appointments.
NEWSLETTER ANNOUNCEMENT Beginning in June, all future editions of our newsletter will no longer be sent by standard mail. Over
the years our mailing list has grown which also means the price of printing and mailing each edition is
using money we could be investing in the children. We will start sending the newsletter by email. If
we do not have your email address, or if you prefer to receive a paper copy, please contact our office,
865-986-1505. The newsletter is also available through our website: www.kidsfirsttn.org
Adopt-A-Valentine Month
Once again this year, our friends at the Community
Church of Tellico Village, collected donations
during the month of February to “adopt a valentine”,
a girl, a boy ($25), siblings ($50), family of four ($100).
The money contributed by the congregation and
visitors will go directly to help the children hurt
by abuse or neglect.
The CAC was also the lucky recipient of their Wishing
Well donations for February. We received bags of
cleaning products and items for the Toy Closet. Chris receives gifts donated by the Tellico
Village RV Club for the kids at Christmas,
presented by Jean and Ivar Carlson.
St. Thomas Women’s Guild
We are grateful for the interest expressed by the
St. Thomas Women’s Guild and appreciate their
help again this year with a generous donation to
purchase gas cards for the parents/legal guardians
bringing their child for therapy. With todays poor
economy and the price of gas, some families find it
hard to commute back and forth one day a week
for their child’s counseling (therapy sessions could
last 12—15 weeks). To ease this burden, we
provide $10 or $15 gas cards at the end of their
visit. We also hope, in some cases, it is an incentive
for the guardian to bring the child on a consistent
basis. Ladies, we appreciate your thoughtful con-
sideration of our clients needs and thank you for
your continued support.
Jenny Tippens, second from right, one of our new Board Members, brought a
few young men from her Youth Group at church to the Center last sum-
mer to do some weeding, wash the CAC van, and wipe down the toys in
the playroom. These boys did a fantastic job and were very interested to
learn about Kids First. You may have seen a few of the boys helping at
Soup’s On in January. Thank you so much!!

Members of the Tellico Village RV Club not only went shopping for gifts
this year, they graciously donated over $1,200. for the CAC to purchase
“wish lists” for some of the kids currently in therapy. The majority of our
clients cannot afford to celebrate Christmas with gifts so at this time of
year it means a lot to a child to know Santa was thinking of him/her,
reminding them of how special they are. Kids First CAC Therapists,
Dr. Mona Williams-Hayes and Beth Catchot, chose a family of five to
surprise with all the fixin’s for a Christmas dinner. The mother and
father both work at minimum wage jobs, barely making enough to
support their 3 children. Darcy Navratil, Family Advocate, took the
mom to Wal Mart to shop for groceries. The family was so very grate-
ful—this was the best Christmas they had in years!
Chris and the staff would also like to thank the special
‘Santa’s’ who called the Center asking to ’adopt-a-child’ at
Christmas: Jenny Tippens Charlene Hipsher

To all of our Helping Hands, Volunteers, Civic Groups, Businesses,
Individuals and Neighborhood Clubs—You are a vital part in helping us to further our mission,
to Heal the Pain of Child Abuse
Collin Humphries, a freshman at Pellissippi State, helped
out at the Center in late November. He was kind enough
to put up our Christmas tree and decorations (after he
spent a few hours outside in the cold pulling weeds).
THANK YOU COLLIN!
Kids helping Kids
Reporting Child Abuse Tennessee Law requires that any person who knows or has reason
to suspect that a child has been abused must report the allega-
tion to the toll-free hotline number or local law enforcement.
Remember, “has reason to suspect” means you have seen
indicators of abuse, the child has disclosed abuse, or you have a
“gut” feeling something may not be right. It does not mean that
you are certain the abuse occurred.
Reporting abuse, or suspected abuse, is actually a request for
professionals to investigate further. Failure to report child abuse is
punishable by up to 11 months and 29 days in jail and a maxi-
mum fine of $2,500. If you suspect child abuse call the
Tennessee Toll-Free Hotline at 1-877-237-0004
