Project Title & Description: Maryland Faith Health Network The Maryland Faith Health Network was a pilot project of 70 area congregations and 3 local hospitals to build an infrastructure to best leverage the unique assets in faith and health institutions to promote population health. Now in the post-pilot phase, MCHI is interested in creating a sustainable peer to peer support network for congregations geared toward reducing avoidable hospitalizations, preventing/managing diabetes and substance use disorder. These specific areas have been identified by congregations and state health officials as top priorities for improving health outcomes and disparities in our state. House of Ruth Maryland Improving Donation Flow for an IPV Shelter

2201 Argonne Drive www.hruth.org Organization Mission: The House of Ruth Maryland leads the fight to end violence against women and their children by confronting the attitudes, behaviors and systems that perpetuate it, and by providing victims with the services necessary to rebuild their lives safely and free of fear. Project Title & Description: Improving Donation Flow for an IPV Shelter This is an exciting opportunity for a Service Scholar to help establish the donation flow and inventory process for Maryland's largest non-profit intimate partner violence shelter. This coming Spring, the receiving of donations will move off-site from the Shelter. This change, which will better protect the confidential nature of the shelter, requires a new way of thinking about how donations will be inventoried, obtained, organized and distributed. New volunteer positions need to be developed. Although some structure will need to be in place prior to the Service Scholar starting, it is expected that the scholar will have a significant amount of input into the final procedures; will have opportunities to create systems and volunteer opportunities; and oversee/evaluate how those changes work. Student Leader Responsibilities:

Evaluate current system in place for inventory, acquisition, organization and distribution of donations.

Make recommendations and implement changes to this system that enhance the flow of the donation process.

Create and document procedures for this work.

Make recommendations and implement volunteer positions that intersect and enhance the Shelter handling of donations.

Additional Volunteer Opportunities:

Volunteer positions already exist to assist in organizing incoming donations and in the on-site Clothes Closet, a room where residents can shop for donated outfits.

New positions will need to be created and could include inventory, transport, and distribution of donations. The scholar can help House of Ruth think beyond basic volunteer tasks and create meaningful opportunities for volunteers that better enhance the overall donation flow process.
