Preparation for the Word

*Call to Worship (Responsive) Brian Marra

One: Let us come into God’s presence with Thanksgiving

All: Singing joyful songs of praise

One: For the Lord is a gracious God, whose mercy is everlasting

All: and whose faithfulness endures to all generations.

*Prayer of Adoration (Unison) Brian Marra

O God, you are infinite, eternal and unchangeable, glorious in holiness, full of love and compassion,

abundant in grace and truth. Your works everywhere praise you, and your glory is revealed in Jesus Christ our

Savior. Therefore we praise you, blessed and holy Trinity, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

*Hymn “Open the Eyes of My Heart” (Insert)

*Call to Confession Mary Mell

One: The proof of God’s amazing love is this: While we were sinners Christ died for us. Because we have faith in him

we dare to approach God with confidence. In faith and penitence, let us confess our sin before God and one

another.

*Prayer of Confession: (Responsive) Mary Mell

Holy and merciful God in your presence we confess our sinfulness and shortcomings and our offenses against

you. You alone know how often we have sinned in wandering from your ways, in wasting your gifts, in forgetting

your love. Have mercy on us, O Lord, for we are ashamed and sorry for all we have done to displease you.

Forgive our sins, and help us to live in your light and walk in your ways, for the sake of Jesus Christ our Savior.

(Time for Silent Confession)

One: Receiving the gift of Christ’s new day, the people said,

All: “Amen.”

Assurance of Pardon Mary Mell

One: Hear the good news! Who is in a position to condemn?

Only Christ, and Christ died for us, Christ rose for us, Christ reigns in power for us, Christ prays for us. Amen

*The Gloria Patri Hymnal Page 579

Prayers of the People and The Lord’s Prayer Audrey Byrne

Dear Lord,

Hear us as we lift our prayers for your people…

We pray for all the people who are going through a lot and need some extra help and love.

We pray for all those dealing with broken homes especially those who feel they have no one to go to.

We pray for everyone who doesn’t have the privileges we have and we pray that they and their families will have

high spirits.

We pray for those who can’t get the necessities that are needed.

We pray for all the people affected by the recent tornados in the southern U. S.

We pray that you are in the hearts and minds of our search committee as they work to call a youth pastor

for our growing church family.

We pray for students of all ages as important end of year projects and exams approach.

We pray for our graduating seniors as they enter a whole new world of freedom and responsibilities.

We pray for everyone to know that you are in their hearts and that they are reminded of your love for them.

In your name, hear us as we now pray the prayer you have taught,

All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it

is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us

not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.

Amen

Our Response to God’s Word

*Hymn #161 As Morning Dawns *Affirmation of Faith, Owen Myers

One: Through the ages Christians have proclaimed their beliefs in written and spoken language - Christians what do

you believe?

All: This is the good news which we have received, in which we stand by which we are saved, if we hold it fast:

that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third

day, and that he appeared first to the women, then to Peter, and to the Twelve, and then to many faithful

witnesses.

We believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. Jesus Christ is the first and the last, the

beginning and the end; he is our Lord and our God. Amen

part of our church’s Congregational Care Committee who are responsible for caring for the needs of our Church

Family and/or others as requested. At the present time there are 193 email and phone Prayer Partners involved. If

“I Am The Resurrection and The Life”

May 1, 2014

Dear Family of Faith,

It is with regret that we announce the resignation of Jeni Myers, Director of South Aiken Presbyterian

Kindergarten, and Erin Stewart, Bookkeeper of South Aiken Presbyterian Kindergarten. Both women have

loyally and excellently served the Kindergarten for 12 and 16 years respectively. They have given their heart to

this ministry and to the children they have cared for. They have gone above and beyond time and again, but

now they find themselves both feeling called to offer such devotion to their own families. Obviously, we have

all been blessed by them and their presence will be sorely missed.

The Kindergarten program has been a part of South Aiken Presbyterian Church since its inception in

1955. The Kindergarten was the first outreach program for the church and is at the core of our family of

faith’s identity. Through the years there have been many changes, challenges, and chances for growth as we

have made our way forward in time. We wish to assure you that the tradition of providing outstanding nurture

to the body, mind, and spirit of young people through our Kindergarten as we embody the very love of Christ

for them will continue to be an integral and intentional mission of our Church.

The Kindergarten Committee, wishing to honor these two exceptional women for their passionate

service, has voted to create the Jeni Myers and Erin Stewart Scholarship Fund. This fund will be intended to

provide assistance to families in need by allaying the cost of tuition and fees for our school. We believe the

creation of such a scholarship is a fitting reflection of Jeni and Erin’s sincere desire to make sure the needs of

all children are met. If you are interested in making a contribution to this fund, you may do so by making

contributions to South Aiken Presbyterian Kindergarten noting that this is for the Myers/Stewart Scholarship.

Finally, we hope that you will not only join our Committee in thanking Jeni and Erin for their service

on May 18 during the 11:00 a.m. worship service, but that you will be in prayer for them and for their families

as they begin this new season in their life. We also hope that you will be in prayer for our Kindergarten

Teachers and for our Committee as we seek to faithfully navigate this transition time. It is our Committee’s

goal to have new staff in place well before the 2014-2015 school year begins. Interested persons may send

resumes to the church office care of the Kindergarten Committee. It is our Committee’s belief that the new

school year could very well be one of our best years.

Peace in Christ,

South Aiken Presbyterian Kindergarten Committee

Fear?

Do you want a Stephen Minister—a trained lay Christian caregiver to walk beside you in times of trouble, but just can’t take that step to ask for help? Are you trying to cope alone, but just not quite making it? Are you afraid others will know what you tell your Stephen Minister?

Do you feel guilty for needing someone to listen to you and pray for you? Allow yourself to do this. Allow yourself to reach out for help. Allow someone to share the comfort of Christ with you. Stephen Ministers are there for you, and will keep all that you say in confidence. You don’t have to go through this alone. Contact Stephen Leader Lisa Lader (642-6840 or cell 439-2004), Dr. Christopher Crotwell or Parish Associate Rev. Bowling (648-9574) so you will not have to carry your burdens alone.
